I have a pair of off-the-rack Der Daus that I love, but time to re-sole and new heels. The rest of the boots, including zipper, are super…nice patina and shine. Does anyone have experience with sending boots to NY for doing this? Looks like about $100 for the work. I’d send them in early December and need them back by Feb for FL. So feedback on both quality of the work plus turn around time would be appreciated. Otherwise I will look locally…I just live on the less-horsey side of Atlanta so no easy access to repair where I can be sure they understand riding boots.
You will get them back in time! Just an FYI…it’s more than 100. I was told the same thing, but they ended up charging me 140 for putting new soles on and nothing nore. I just have the ribbed ones, nothing fancy on my dream boots. They took about 3 weeks when I sent my last September around the 26th or so.
Thanks, egrubbs! Good to know. Mine will need new heels as well. Interesting on the cost…their online form says $100 for soles and heels…hmmm.
Before you send them off, there is a non-horsey option in Atlanta that you might want to consider. Santana Creative behind the Buckhead Traget (near Phipps) does fabulous works. In my experience they will tell you if they can’t do something, or can’t make it look like the original. They fixed the zippers on my Der Dau’s for a very reasonable charge.
Thanks, Madison! Phipps is like Mars for us OTP south people lol! Only ATL folks will understand. But I will put into consideration for sure.
Are you going to Wellington? Woody’s can probably do them fairly quickly and you can pick them up when you get down there.
No…just Ocala. But I was wondering if there was someone in Ocala that I could send them to and then pick up when I get there. Hadn’t explored that yet.
I understand, my ITP friends think it is insane that I go OTP multiple times a week to ride!!! I had an unpleasant experience with Der Dau last year, including shoddy workmanship on fixing brand new boots that they made wrong to begin with, so I will never send mine back there for repair!! If you search for the threads about putting zippers in field boots, you will find some boot repair places mentioned that might be other options.
Sent them to Horse Country Shoe Repair in Ocala a couple weeks before and pick them up when you get there. They know riding boots and do good work.
Thanks! I like this idea!
