I have many favorites, Wicked Strong because of Jimmy Jerkens, Rosie because I want to see a woman win, Candy Boy because Gary Stevens is my favorite jockey of all time and Ride on Curlin because I love Calvin Borel and Samraat because we are both born on Long Island.
Where can I watch it on-line? Thanks!!
Love California Chrome, but Gary Stevens is too cute to not watch…
I forgot about Ride on Curlin and Calvin.
Calvin is an interesting jockey!!
I love California Chrome’s story, but I agree, the silks are not my favorite. I appreciate that the owners want to bring some levity into the sometimes overly formal world of Thoroughbred racing, but for me, it is a little much. Still, I’d love to see Chrome win.
My other pick is Uncle Sigh. Solely for his name, which cracks me up. I like the Wounded Warrior connection too.

I am the world’s worst handicapper. If they had a bet for who would finish last I would be a zillionaire.[/QUOTE]
You and me both! The first, and only time, I ever bet money on a race was this random race at Colonial Downs (iirc). It was the first time I’d ever seen a race live. I picked a handsome gray “Reel Jigity” to win. It was very exciting… even after he came in dead last! LOL!
Watching online: I fear that NBC has exclusive rights. But if NBC has a sports site, then it will probably be there. it is on regular NBC now so you do not need a satellite.
What fabric is Tod Pletcher’s suit made of? It sure isn’t any natural fabric. It looks like armour.
Notice that Bob Costas was the same height as the jockey he was interviewing?
I downloaded the NBC live stream app and it has gone belly up on me just now. So I guess I will content myself with the replay. I am rooting for California Chrome and Vicar’s In Trouble.
PS: I think that Wildcat Red will be around at the end.
You heard it here first, folks.
But if he isn’t I take no responsibility for the above statement.
Of course I love Cali Chrome and I hope he wins, but it worries me that people with an $8000 horse who can’t run her way out of a paper bag, will want to breed to a really cheap sire, expecting to get another Cali Chrome. (Present company excepted, of course.)
FOLKS, we have too many horses which should never have been bred. Don’t. Do. It.
Agreed LH, but really they are gonna do it anyway…I will always get my horses off track because there are just too many.
Boston native, so Wicked Strong for that. California Chrome for the Triple Crown chance.
My friend and I are on our way to a party. Couldn’t wait at home till the Derby was over, and couldn’t get there early enough to watch it there. So we are at a bar en route!
Long shots I’m including - Tapiture - 4th in his last, but back to his original jockey. Also Ride On Curlin & Samraat. A few exotics. Good luck to all!
Do the horses get to bring their own ponies? Or are the ponies assigned ahead of time? I just noticed that most of them were decked out matching the silks of the horse they were ponying.
That was FUN!
That was awesome!
YEAH. Didn’t have him but it’s nice to see nice people with a good and rather spectacular looking horse hit the big time sans accusations and rumors.
Now we will see how good he is, whether the easy pace let him control it or he is the real deal racing needs so badly.
Good race! I was sorry to see Rosie get into trouble, but California Chrome was impressive! The “cow bred” did it
HAHAHAHAHA! Specutacular ride, congratulations to all. From Swaps to CC! Hooray! Actually I love those colors, as a matter of fact, they are my colors, or would be.
Yay! CC is still doing what he did the last two races. I just don’t look at those silks either. And frankly, think there have been much more obnoxious winners in the past.
Who woulda thunk to put Commanding Curve in 2nd? Nice exacta and trifecta.
I don’t know how I feel about the ‘cheap horse’ story…I think it’s overglorified for TV. No matter how ‘cheap’ the mare was and how ‘cheap’ the stallion fees were, it still costs a heck of a lot of money to get a horse to the Kentucky derby. I like that they won. It tells me that even the average joe of the horse world still has a chance!
As far as the Tara and Johnny bits-part of me likes them. They’re funny, but the other part of me wishes they’d treat the event like a sport. There’s no Super Bowl red carpet nonsense. But those two paints they rode off on were cute!
