Devastating fire at Sunnybrook Stables

Sunnybrook Stables means so much to so many people. I know many people who have gotten their start riding here, and then later on their own children. A little piece of horsie paradise in the middle of Toronto. Many thanks to the firefighters who pulled 13 horses from the back barn, and the Toronto mounted unit for shipping the surviving horses to the CNE.

I was shocked when I heard the news.

Just heartbreaking. I feel so sorry for those poor horses and everyone who loved them.

Heart breaking, every barn owners worst nightmare.

Tragic

Horrible news. So sad for all involved.

Terrible, and so scary

Every horse owners worse nightmare. It’s why mine stay out frankly. I have a very utilitarian old barn that would go poof in a minute to a barn fire.

So tragic. Prayers to everyone affected

My heart breaks. So sorry for all.

For those unfamiliar with Sunnybrook, it is/was a riding school located in a gorgeous public park in mid-town Toronto, and one of only two riding schools easily accessible by public transit. Its loss is a huge blow to riders who don’t have a car (and there are lots in this city).

It was a holiday weekend, and there are (unsubstantiated at this time) rumors that folks were letting off fireworks in the park. Too soon for any comment from the fire marshal.

RIP dear Mr T, Beau, Sutherland, Sugar, Poomba, Blossom, Tess, Sandy, Gifford, Axel, Hercules, Apollo, Marty, Phoenix, Sampson, and Misty. 16 beautiful souls who will be remembered by so many. Thousands of riders got their start at Sunnybrook over the 40 years that it operated in the park. And those horses were the best of the best.

I taught lesson at Sunnybrook for 3 years and I can honestly say that this was the very best group of school horses I’ve ever had the privilege to work with. This loss has hit us all very hard.

{{Halt@X}} , all the staff and students at Sunnybrook.
