Devil's claw clearance time?

And other herbs…Anybody know? I’ve had no luck finding a realistic answer so far.

I’m going to an approved dressage show at the end of June and want to make sure that I get my mare switched over to the herb free version of her Smartflex Senior in time. I meant to change it this month, but her smartpaks had already shipped. Next shipment is 2 weeks before the show.

Is 2 weeks enough or should I pull her off earlier?

ETA: Argh!!! Chamomile and passion flower are on the banned list too. There goes the Smartmare Harmony.

you are not likely to find a standard answer as herbs are highly variable in potency . The USEF advises this caution in their drugs pamphlet

Even if you were to find some data on your herbs PK ( pharmicokinetics) the herb itself is not easily standardized.

2 weeks would be the minimum I would trust. Unless someone here used the exact product you do and passed testing, which would be total random chance, you are not likely to find a concrete answer

What hoopoe said.
Little info available on pharmakokinetics of herbs in horses.

I was hoping someone here might have had some experience with it, but I realize that it was a long shot. I’ll just pull her off of both at the beginning of June to be safe.

I would ask the manufacturers. I used to sell some equine products with devils claw in it. Manufacturer’s advice was to stop giving products 24 hours before an event where they could be tested but I advised clients to stop 48 hours before.

I heard someone say that something like Black As Knight has to be stopped two weeks before a show.

Black As Knight is banned?? Oh, Lord! I need to read labels!

It contains paprika which tests as capsaicin which is an anti inflammatory. There is a show horse formula without the paprika.

Just got replies to my inquiries from Smartpak and USEF. Smartpak says 14 days, USEF says 7 days. I think I will go with 14 just to be on the safe side.
