So I have a devoucoux saddle that’s a couple years old and it’s a bit too small for me now and not a perfect fit on my new mare. How do I go about trading it in or finding it’s value and selling it? It’s in really good condition too. Thanks!
If you want to do it through Devoucoux, then call your area’s rep.
Several companies will offer you a “trade in value” and then you only pay the difference on the new saddle … which can be fine EXCEPT if the new saddle arrives & does not suit.
Read the fine print regarding “non-refundable deposits” or “restocking fee” on the saddle purchase agreements
(eg, I believe CWD has increased their restocking fee to 30% or so)
You can sell it through a variety of used saddle sites, fineusedsaddles.com, frenchusedsaddles.com, iselltack.com, allthebestusedsaddles.com. When I was looking to sell Patricia at fineusedsaddles.com had the lowest commission, 20% but that may have changed. Patricia has an excellent reputation, so does Rachael at iselltack.com. All the French saddle companies sell used saddles, so you could probably get a trade-in with any of them if you are buying something else.
Check out the sites I mentioned to get an idea of what to ask for your saddle, based on comparable condition.
