I have a plain black one that I’d like to sell, but I’m not sure what the best way to market it might be? It’s in good shape, but heavy, so I don’t relish the thought of having to figure out how to pack and ship it. I’m in MA, so I doubt I could sell it locally. Any ideas?
You could look thru these ads and see if you think advertising it here may fit:
Like Bluey said try Ranch World Ads and/or if it’s a desirable model a collector may be interested in it. We have a DE Walker Visalia, all original, full floral carved, supposedly valued at about $10,000. Been told it should go in a museum. But finding someone to pay it is a different story! Not that we would sell it, been in the family for three generations and in excellent shape. I’ve seen some basic ones going for about $3000 on eBay. eBay is another option if you list in the the correct categories it may get the attention it needs.
Anyhow shipping a saddle isn’t hard. I get the big heavy saddle boxes saddle makers use to ship theirs. Lots of packing material, covering and laying it in the box is key to getting it to it’s destination unharmed.
Shipping is not the cheapest for a heavy saddle, basic guess can be about $75. Depending on carrier, weight, dimensions, destination and how fast it needs to get there of course changes the cost. Shipping through Ebay gives a slight discount as well.
There are also FB groups that specialize in buckaroo/vaquero buying and selling of tack
Thank you! This does look like it might be a good place to advertise, although I wasn’t able to find a search function anywhere.
Thank you for this. I’m thinking that this plain black one is likely worth less than $1000. My plan, if I can get going on it, is to get it cleaned up and start listing it, and just resign myself to having to pack it up and ship it if it sells.
That’s a great idea, as the first thing I need is enough information to know what I should be asking for it!
