Did a horse die at Clinton Anderson's ranch?
I’ve hobble trained several horses (more than 3) and have never had one actually panic. They stand there thinking they are cemented to the ground and graze around them and eventually they either hop or take little baby steps to move around. I had a mare on a pack trip who was hobbled take little tiny baby steps all the way across a large meadow to sniff noses with another horse, squeal, and take little baby steps all the way back to where she started.

This woman is definitely out there. However, if it’s not true, is there a response from CA?
I have also hobble trained 1 horse. It’s a useful skill for them to have and really should be done more often

So apparently a horse did die at Clinton’s place. Now he seems pretty mad. I don’t blame him for being ticked.

This is said to be from Clint Anderson

First of all, this is nobody’s business other than mine and the horse’s owner. If people would pay more attention to their own lives, their own horses and their own problems, the world would be a much better place. But there are too many looky-lous and sticky beaks that want to stick their nose in and stir up trouble when there’s no trouble to be stirred up.

#1 People need to get a grip on themselves. Animals die. Humans die. It’s called life. In fact, there’s this bumper sticker that was invented that says “s*** happens.” People put it on the back of their bumpers because that’s what happens in life. It’s called s*** and it happens. Sometimes it’s somebody’s fault, but a lot of times it’s nobody’s fault. Again, it’s referred to as s*** happens.

#2 It’s unfortunate that the horse died. Reality is we don’t know how he died because the owner didn’t want to get an autopsy. Horses die at my ranch. Yes, it’s called life. We have 60 horses on the ranch, we have dogs and we even have cats. In fact, we had a cat fight in the barn last week, and one of them died. Shocking, yes. It’s called life. Animals die. Yes, even Clinton Anderson’s animals die. It’s called life. I know this is shocking to know that as good as I am and as popular as I am and as famous as I am, my animals don’t live forever either. Holy s*** , I must be human. For any moron that’s getting his panties in a wad because a horse died at Clinton Anderson’s ranch, get a life.

#3 It’s unfortunate that the owner had to go and start this whole fire because I’m the one that has to go put it out. I’ve apologized to the owner; it’s not my fault the horse died. It’s not the owner’s fault the horse died either. We don’t know how it died. We believe it had something to do with either a brain aneurism or a heart attack because it died extremely quickly and there was no struggling involved. Reality is it was the owner’s choice not to get an autopsy - she didn’t want to get one.

I apologized to the owner; in fact, I’ve spoken with her on three separate occasions about this subject. We sent the owner flowers and we refunded all of the owner’s money. I did everything I possibly could. In fact, I even offered the owner a Signature Horse free of charge. I went above and beyond to try to help her through the grieving process. A Signature Horse, with all its training, is worth $25,000. She declined the Signature Horse because she said the horse was too small. I had a horse picked out for her that was 14.1 hands high, and she didn’t feel like a horse 14.1 hands high was worth having even though it was free and is worth $25,000. Just for the record, the lady is 5’9" and I’m 5’11", Mindy is 14.1. I rode Mindy in front of millions of people for 15 years and never had one email or comment that said I looked too big on Mindy. Just to set the record straight. But she didn’t want the Signature Horse - no problem whatsoever. Since she didn’t want the Signature Horse, I offered her the opportunity to send another horse to the ranch for the six-week program and we’d train it free of charge. Again, I went above and beyond to take care of a grieving customer.

I bent over backwards to take care of her needs, and now I’m having to fix this kind of bulls*** and I’m tired of it. So reality is if you think your horse is going to live forever, you’re an idiot. Do we do everything in our power to take care of animals on the ranch? Yes, we do. The reality is every once in a while it keeps coming back to that bumper sticker “s*** happens.” So people, get a life, get out of business that doesn’t involve you and start focusing on your horsemanship and your own lives. When people start doing that, they’ll have a lot more success with their horses, a lot more fun and a lot less drama. If it sounds like I’m irritated and I’m cranky about this, I am. All we’ve done is taken an unfortunate situation and turned it into circus and absolute mess. It didn’t have to go this direction. This is my statement and this whole subject is done after this.

Just another example of pi$$ poor maketing or public relations. I think they tried to do the right thing and are now just pissed at the owner.

I’ve had horses get tangled in fences twice, both times it wasn’t with me standing next to them to say “whoa”.

I also - horrors! - have hobbled horses overnight on camping trips. No casualties.

I saw this link on the facebook post, and wanted to give me two cents  The main thing that got me is this. If Mr Anderson was trying to hide something, why wouldnt he go all the way with it and say it died in the the pasture or something? Obvisouly he must have told her the horse was hobbled or something, so why would he say that if he had something to hide? Doesnt make sense to me.
I actually know someone who had their horse there for training and they were basically told something like “Please remember, horses do get sick, they do get injured and in some cases, they could die.” She said it didnt sound at all like they were saying they died in the “program”, only that they could die in general. I think this lady is just trying to cause a problem plan and simple.

If I had to deal with Mrs. Magikal I’d probably get pissed off too.

Ummmm… that is a totally unbelievable and unprofessional response… sound like CA needs to follow his own advice and get a grip.

And now that I think about it, why would he even ask her if she wanted an autospy if he had something to hide? I’d think he wouldnt even want to bring the subject up.

letmeride… no one here is accusing CA of anything. We have all pretty much sensed the lady is a complete whacko.

No, no, I’m sorry, I should have been more specific, I meant the owner of the horse, not anyone on here at all. Sorry if it sounded that way. I’m new to this forum and just sounded off too quickly, lol. I do agree that the letter from Clinton could have been way more professional, I understand its upsetting, but geez

Yup.

Or know that crazy, over-emotional and ignorant comes with the type of HO that butters Anderson’s bread. For the love of God, the guy has made a very good living off of HOs like this. If a bit of spin-control is the price he needs to pay then it’s a small one.

And the offer of a 14.1 horse whom he has ridden for 15 years (so an older horse) said to be worth $25K? It would have been another coup for Anderson. He could have one less to feed (or die on his place), do some PR and write the valuable horse off his taxes as a business expense.

WTH?!?

This reply doesn’t make me like him MORE.

Well, not that CA would ever see a red cent from me anyway (I don’t need horse training by DVD thanks) - this really clinches it.

What a calm a cool professional

I assume he keeps better control of his emotions, and stays composed when working with a frustrating animal…

TOTALLY - That IS your customer base CA.

I don’t know how to do multiple quotes but you read his quote wrong. He never said the horse he offered her was one he had ridden for 15 years. He said his own horse is the same basic size and he’s ridden HER for the last 15 years and no one ever said he was too big on her. He is taller then the lady he was offering the horse to so just making a comparison.
You know that was my first response. But I think he meant the horse he picked out is 14.1 H. And that horse is the same size as Mindy, who he rode for 15 years in front of crowds etc… I don’t think he wanted to give her Mindy. I think he just badly worded his letter and the horse he picked out was Mindy’s size. But I could be wrong.

You know, I don’t know CA from Adam, but at the end of the day, it sounds like a horse died - end of story. He asked if owner wanted an autopsy, she declined, but then she goes onto to insinuate that there was something else going on. Sounds like he did (whether you believe horse value or not) try to make some amends, even though he likely had zero reason to, and then still got hammered. If I was him, I’d likely be pissed off too.

Freak accidents happen ALL the time. My 1st horse keeled over in the field, completely out of the blue. He was 12, as healthy as anything and just one minute there, one minute gone. I didn’t have an autopsy done either - what was the point - the horse was dead, it wasn’t going to bring him back.

LOL. Excellent point.

Edited to delete a point that several other people made while I was composing my post. No sense in beating a dead horse. No pun intended.

He is super peed off isn’t he.

Pure unadulterated whackadoo. Her FB page is full of majikal fairies and pictures of other peoples horses. I believe the whole thing to be a fabrication. Whack job for sure.

I just caught up on this thread. I could care less one way or another about CA or the Fairy Lady… but if CA was going to A) Run something through the program for free, B) Give her a horse valued at 25K, and/or B) Refund all her money… why couldn’t he offer to pay for the autopsy on the horse? It would certainly be cheaper and clear up any questions as to why the horse died while in his care. Or why wouldn’t the Fairy Lady ask him to pay for it as compensation since she couldn’t afford it and CA was obviously looking for a way to compensate her. The way that I read it was that they didn’t have one done because they couldn’t afford it.

I do understand that an autopsy won’t bring him back… but (if I read correctly) the horse was a stallion and this woman breeds. If one of my breeding stallions keeled over in a field while eating grass, I would want to know exactly why. Especially if there was a possibility that it was genetic issue.

I agree with all those who say that it doesn’t quite add up… Although her website is interesting enough to keep me entertained for a bit.

In regards to CA’s response to the whole mess… when you are THAT well known in an industry full of people who love animals and spend big money to have them trained by you, then you have one drop dead on your ranch (and I do understand that horses just keel over sometimes, just like people)… you bet your dollar that people are going to be nosey! Not a very professional response. If he was that angry about it, he should have had a PR associate type it out, to remove any emotions that he may have had regarding the situation.
