Did anyone in Canton/Alpharetta GA lose an EMU?

Apparently your horses aren’t the only ones dealing with this situation…Perhaps this is a long lost cousin?

EMUSING as well

Someone needs to call officer Fisher </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

WONDERFUL…I guess I better just decide I like Damn Bird as, according to this, he will never leave.

CNN.com has a video today of attempted emu-catching…
“Officials find out hard way it’s not easy to catch an emu”

LMH - I think you need to call in the big guns!!! Quick… get on the phone to Pat Parelli and have him come over to help you with your horses’ fear of the Emu!!!

He could even film it for an episode on RFD-TV!!! I think everyone here would watch that episode no matter how they felt about him!!!

I couldn’t believe it, my feed distributor bought AN EMU, and loves it! He asked me if I knew where he could get 5 or 6 more…where was he when LMH needed him??

Thanks Spot-at least I know there will be light–if it is 2 weeks for a damn pig, I would think no longer than that for a damn Emu.

I really want to say again I absolutely believe in getting them adjusted to things-I don’t WANT to be a whiner.

I guess when my formerly lifeless 20 yo is leading in ala passage and appears 18h tall, it just kinda looks grim from there.

I was actually going to start a HEAVY DUTY desensitizing program this week…I just thought Emu was in a later chapter.

So whatever DID happen to Liz’s damn pig?

The guy works in a zoo…

Have you fed the Lions?
Have you fed the Emus?
Did you close the gates??

Hello…I need to buy a new EMU! </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

YES! Everytime I see that poor zookeeper, I can’t help but laugh about our poor dear Emusement! Even a (VERY non-horsey) friend of mine saw it and called me in hysterics, after hearing the tale of your Emu (and gay geldings!) in great detail.

So LMH how’s it going on the <span class=“ev_code_BLUE”>R</span><span class=“ev_code_PINK”>A</span><span class=“ev_code_RED”>I</span><span class=“ev_code_GREEN”>N</span><span class=“ev_code_PINK”>B</span><span class=“ev_code_RED”>O</span><span class=“ev_code_PURPLE”>W</span> <span class=“ev_code_PURPLE”>R</span><span class=“ev_code_GREEN”>A</span><span class=“ev_code_RED”>N</span><span class=“ev_code_PINK”>C</span><span class=“ev_code_GREEN”>H</span> today?

Yes- use caution! Emu pecked my daughters eye while we were at a petting zoo. She was fine… but scared both of us! And amazingly enough… after reading many of the other threads… it did not even occur to me to try to sue the bird owner!!!

So Woodmont WAS the golf course that the GA Emu Association caught the other three at. I figured as much. Cherokee dispatch told me the owner wouldn’t be able to look for their emus for a long time because they were in jail. Actually said “looks like you’re the proud owner of a new emu!”

Umm, thanks but no thanks.

He paced a 10 foot section of our fence for over a day straight and then must have gotten out however he got in. He was gone when I came home Monday afternoon. Animal Control kept dragging their heels about coming to get him, so I hope your neighbor has better luck than I did!

Dont even TRY to tell us your problems

YOU are the one that drove the emu away and now YOU are complaining about being sad?!

Not once did you ask any of us how WE felt?! If we were sad because we had nothing amusing to read any more. IF WE wanted the emu to stay or to go …

Its all about YOUYOUYOUYOU*, isnt it?!

And you dont even have the DECENCY to give us an update on the nursing yearling either to keep us MILDLY amused!

…sigh …

<BLOCKQUOTE class=“ip-ubbcode-quote”><div class=“ip-ubbcode-quote-title”>quote:</div><div class=“ip-ubbcode-quote-content”>The only other question is, what do you do with it once it is caught? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Ive already told you … you take it to Liz Hall …

:Spot:

UUUHHHh…You’re supposed to be here, enjoying a Winter Wonderland…Emu-Free Zone…

where did they take him? do we want to know?

he sure left some funky vibes around your place

Well I have to agree with Spot, it was very selfish of you get rid of Emusement. But the Gay Gelding story line is hilarious!!! The only thing you can do to redeem yourself is get a couple of gay Emus and keep us posted…

or is it Emues, Emusis maybe Emuses whatever the plural of Emu is…

You can race Emus???

I truly now hate this animal. I never thought I could hate a living animal but I do.

I want to kill the bird. Shoot it dead.

Egads, stop drinking??!

Was it the sheriff who gave the “ok” to shoot the damn thing? Would they, by any chance, want some target practice and shoot it for you/your neighbour? Could always invite them over for a BBQ afterwards…

(And, if you still wanted to de-spook the horses, you could always stuff the bird and place it wherever you wanted. How’s that for killing two birds with one stone! )

If it helps: the way UCDavis vets catch emus is to chase them about willynilly, white coats flapping in the breeze, until they run close to a lone stationary vet student who then launches himself onto the birds back and tries to take it down, rubgy-style. Their x-country course is across the street from the emu paddock and the first time I schooled there my mare was fascinated by the emus, literally deer in the headlights frozen in place for about 3 minutes fascinated. Then the vets came out and started chasing them about The mare was keenly interested in this as chasing and attacking things are hobbies of hers so we stopped to watch a bit more and again I literally had to drag her away. She had no fear at all once she’d seen them being chased. To be fair, she wasn’t afraid of much. Plus I think she had a crush on a really dark blue one, he had pretty eyes and she was whickering under her breath to him

If she ever goes to a show and there’s emus nearby? She’s so going to win every class.

Damn bird. It is a LOVELY day here-sunny and upper 50’s or 60.

SO I decided to desensitize my horses to the bird so I could enjoy the day-I started with Milo, the level headed one.

Thought I would do some online work to make sure he saw the bird so I wouldn’t have any spooks while riding.

over one hour lately he is still shaking in his whole body, sweating and snorting…getting WORSE by the minute…

I know I know, it isn’t anyone’s fault that MY horses can’t handle it-it is MY job to hang in there until my horses get used to…I know I know someone could decided to move next door that bred friggingg EMUs.

I just wanted to enjoy my a pretty day and instead I have spent it so far like a damn dope on a rope with my 5yo shaking like he just saw the anti-christ.

I am off to get vicitm #2, take an attitude adjuster pill and carry on.

LMH, my dear. That mental picture of the nursing gelding was priceless!!

Now that Emusement is gone, me thinks it’s time for an LMH Calgon moment, something soothing to drink and soft music. Go to the happy place…
