Did anyone in Canton/Alpharetta GA lose an EMU?

See the creation of MOGG has ALREADY helped—Liz don’t you feel better? I know I feel better having read your story…we are NOT alone…we can be here for each other, support each other, learn important supportive things to say to our gedlings!!

As far as Milo the circus horse (who, by the way, was the “receiver” in the recent “incident”)…he LOVES that pedestal…I have created a monster with it…if I am riding and just drop the reins…he goes STRAIGHT (ahem) for it and steps up…we hang out, back off and back to work…

They didn’t offer any assistance or the name of someone who could help? Unbelievable!
Felix, love the photos!

Are we talking about the beautiful covered round pen on Old Lathemtown? That thing is gorgeous!!!

And I definitely want to be in on any emu-ropin’ action!!!

Felix, I don’t run the rescue. I recently adopted a horse from them and keep him there. But perhaps we have met thru other channels…i’v worked for a local tack store on and off for years and have had horses in Alpharetta for over 20 years.

Why don’t you just shoot it? I would call the sheriff and see if this is a viable option. If its presenting a danger to your horses, I would seriously consider it.

I think your neighbor needs this site…

OMG, just caught up w/ this thread.

Of course, where everyone else sees a liability, I see… potential PROFIT…

I found myself thinking how much - how very very VERY much - I would loff to get Avery up there for an emu-despooking lesson! I can’t be the only one. You could charge us all admission!

Liability waivers might be a problem though!

Atlanta Freecycle doesn’t allow the posting of animals, but that was a good thought!!

Felix

Did you ever try the guy that was featured in the Cherokee Ledger? He was your typical flannel wearing trapper guy who makes a living “disposing” of unwanted pests (bobcat, fox, coyote, etc). In fact, I believe that he helps out some of the environmental groups remove certain types of animals that are destrying the environment. I’ll do some web searches and see if I can come up with a name for you or you can call the Ledger.

Spot has a point. Your horses should become EMUNE to “it” eventually! But in the meantime, video your horses prancing around your pasture & put some music to it for some EMUSICAL freestyle!

All kidding aside, just please be careful!

P.S.
I’m in San Diego. Would you like me to contact the San Diego Zoo for you for some advice?

He isn’t scared-I spoke to a breeder/vet-this is what they do!

Yes he has food-otherwise I am quite sure he would be gone by now.

LHM - you should have kept him - you could make a fortune on emu oil! Have y’all seen the commercials for emu oil on TV lately? I forget what it is supposed to do, but…

I have no idea where he went-knowing my neighbor’s good heart…likely a rescue of some sort.

I have mentally now shifted my stress from EMU to founding a new support group MOGG (Mothers of Gay Geldings). I already have the vision of the Logo dancing in my head.

Re: MOGG
Mr. Blondie is too cranky to let any other horse - gelding OR mare - near him, but the other night when I was fitting his new breeding hobbles (our solution to the dreaded Kicking In The Trailer), I noticed that he was… er… airing his wedding tackle. Or what’s left of it.

Mothers of BDSM Geldings, anyone?

Not sure of the address, although LMH might know.

Seahorsefarms, I bet we’ve met before. I play polo over at Cashin’s and we’ve done benefits for you guys if I’m not mistaken.

Felix

This whole thread is EMU-sing as heck, but playing Devil’s Advocate here, what if the neighbours decided to become Emu ranchers and got a whole HERD of the suckers?

Wouldnt your horses have to eventually learn to deal with an accept them?

One barn I boarded at decided to get into Alpaca’s and the first week was Hell …
The horses were in a lather running around, would run over the top of you when they caught sight of the alpaca’s, and behaved like total jerks. Everything from my young TB’s the older 26 year old retiree, to the Shire cross gelding, they were terrified of them. They would all line up in a row, huddled together, snorting and ogling them …

It took about a week and then after that, they totally and completely ignored them and forgot all about their existence and life returned to normal once again

Maybe that will happen in time with the emu’s???

:Spot:

Joanne,…so not ladylike to snork before cocktails…makes me wonder if Olga and Helga need a new friend…

LMH, try this…

BTW- I swear I read an ad recently that offered a group of emus for sale with a stun gun included. No kidding. I think it was in Stablemates. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

This is the funniest thread I’ve read in a long time.
