Did Ariat start making field boots even smaller?!!

I have a pair of Ariat Quantum Crowne Pro field boots that I love - they’ve held up really well, and they are super comfy. I bought them maybe two years ago.

So I thought I scored on eBay when I found a pair of new Quantums in the same size, although one size down in the calf. But when the boots arrived yesterday, the foot is a good 1/2 inch shorter than my other boots that are the exact same size??!!

Surely a 7 is a 7 is a 7, regardless of the calf size, right? Now I’m stuck with boots that I can barely get my foot into. :frowning: And when I’m comparing the feet, I’m holding them up sole to sole, and I know that part hasn’t stretched on my old boots from riding in them. Did Ariat suddenly start shrinking their footbed?

I’m now at a loss to find boots, since I thought I knew my exact size to look for, but now seem to be unsure what size I need. Anyone else have the same experience?

Not to be Captain Obvious, but have you considered going to a tack shop and getting measured? Or possibly ordering a couple pairs from Dover or wherever to see what fits?

I found with the original Crownes, they ran a half size larger than Ariat’s other boot offerings. I always wear an 8 in my other Ariat boots - in the Crownes, I need a 7 1/2.

Not sure if this has held true through the Crowne Pros and Quantum Crown Pros, but it might be an answer - perhaps the sizing is just now “true” to the sizing of other Ariats (minus the Monacos, which I find fit a bit differently overall).

I’m not familiar with this model of boot, but many of Ariat’s models have switched over to a square toe, which does also change the measurements of the foot.

I have always found that Ariat’s foot size is off. I have a wide foot that averages a 9 1/2, sometimes I can fit in a 10, sometimes a 9. I can fit in a solid 8 1/2, but wear a 9 (with room) in Ariat. I find it odd especially considering my wide feet.

I also have wider feet (more the ball of my foot area) and can’t squeeze my feet into Ariat boots. In order for them to be correct length-wise (7ish), I’d have to fold my foot in half to make them narrower . And I’m a B width in the real world.

But would Ariat get wonky with sizing? Oh absolutely. Otherwise I’d never be able to go to 5.5 and still be able to slip my Terrains off while laced. I think they are drunk at the wheel half the time.

Their sizing has always been weird. Not sure if cowboy boot sizing is just weird in general, but I have an 8 in the Monacos (fits good with winter socks, a bit loose in the foot with summer socks). In the cowboy boots I have a 6.5 (or maybe even 6,I don’t remember). Before I found that out, I ordered a pair of Ariat cowboy boots online in a logical size 8, they were like clown shoes!!!

My ariats have always been the same size whether English or Western.

I’ve found the Fatbaby line, at least, runs big - I have a pair of those and a pair of (old) Ariat paddocks (so old I don’t remember the model) and both are 11s, but the Fatbaby is def longer in the foot.

So far “knocking on wood” I’ve always found them to fit true, with the exception of a pair of crown paddock boots that were beyond too narrow to get my foot in. In Ariats I can wear 7 1/2 or 8. I recently bought a pair of Volants and it fits perfect (in the foot) and have 2 pair of field boots from ages ago that fit the same as the Volant. Can’t say the same for the calf sizes but I think its more an issue of my calf size v/s what they offer, as I seem to be between sizes with one too big and one a tad too tight. Anymore (with all things) it’s hit and miss with fit, perhaps a reflection more of where it is made and mass production than anything else. I miss their boots their that were made in Italy!

I have never had a pair of the fatbabys because I dslike the look. But when I saw them at the store today they did look a bit bigger than the other western Araits.

I’ve found that different styles of Ariats run differently, either large, small or on size. And I also just ordered a replacement pair of paddock boots the same size that I bought two years ago and they are half a size smaller than the old boots!

I really think Ariat’s quality has dropped over the years.

I had the same problem with my Ariat Crowne Pros as well. I wear a size 11 (!!!) and have a full calf. However, the boot won’t fit with a 10.5 shoe (which is technically what I need since the 11 is slightly too big) because Ariat takes off calf size with shoe size. It makes so possible sense, but I had to go up a size in order for the boots to fit. So, really, I need to get customs.

Thanks for all the answers - as far as the question about the tack shop - I’m not sure how much that will help - if I’m looking for boots on eBay, how do I know which year they changed the sizing? Like I said, boots in size 7 from two years ago fit great. This year’s boots in size 7, at least half a size too small. Can you imagine searching for that on eBay?!?!

And, I really try not to do the “visit the tack store and try on stuff and then go home and buy it cheaper online” thing - I do know that tack stores have overhead, and I don’t want to take advantage of them. Plus, I really didn’t think I needed to in this circumstance - buying the same boot, from the same manufacturer, just two years later - I just didn’t think the sizing would change that radically in that short a time!

Always have the seller measure the sole, then you should be able to tell. Things can be SO inconsistent even within brands. I was a 26 in Ariats for about 10 years and then ordered a pair and they were enormous. I own a pair of 28s that are practically too small.

That’s actually a REALLY good idea - I just never thought of it before, figuring that if I knew I wore a 7 in the Ariat brand, that would hold across models…guess I’ll have to post these boots up on eBay and start searching for a 7.5
