Did you ride at Hilcrest Farms in Va Beach, Virginia in the late 80's?

Yes, It was Donna- she married Doug. Still friends with the Nelsons. Rockie has gone to Heaven :frowning: Never knew Love, sorry.

Chris has a really nice new barn- check us out at www.breckenridgemanor.net

Scotchie, So it was Donna… is she still in the area?

When did Rockie pass?

Love was a little appy mare. Super cute little thing.

Sorry, I usually just see Donna at the barn Christmas party!
Rocky retired to one of the instructors’ farms and lived a good life- passed with the last few years. He was a kind soul.

Yes, Jamie, I do remember you…it is a small world. I’ll be sure to tell Andi you posted. Do you remember Kim and BooBoo? She is now the barn manager where we board.[/QUOTE]

Yep, Remember Kim and BooBoo, too! Does she still have him? Do you still keep in touch with Sue?

Yes, she still has BooBoo and yes, I still keep in touch with Sue. PM me if you’d like her contact info.

The lady with the bandana is Donna Drolet (not sure of spelling & last name may be different now). She taught at Chris Wynne’s for some time but do not know if she is still involved.

Wow a blast from the past (Hillcrest Farms, Va. Beach)

I somehow ran across this thread and I saw Hillcrest Farms, Va. Beach and wow, did it bring back great memories. I learned to ride there from 1963 until 1970. I started when I was 10. I am now 59, and still riding. I loved Hillcrest and all the teachers and the horses. My favorite was Happy Hooligan, and Checkmate, and of course my first one there, the famous Saltwater. I think every kid there rode Saltwater at one time or another. It was a great place to learn to ride. I had Roxanne mostly as my teacher. She was an excellent teacher. I think back to all the good times I had there.:

So you were there right after I was. Do you remember My Dumpling? I rode him every week. I still have a piece of his mane and I’m 59

Hillcrest Alumni

I learned to ride at HF in the early 60’s. I schooled bratty ponies and some nice boarded horses. I rode Checkmate and his “twin” Liza Jane. Terri was my favorite. I remember all the ponies and most of the horses. I still ride and teach a small group of students. HF was the jewel in my childhood crown!

I rode there from 1963 until 1970

I started taking lessons there in 1963. I was 10. I loved that place. We live in Norfolk, and Hillcrest was my horse escape. My first ride was on Saltwater, the buckskin pony. Roxanne was my teacher. I was in heaven. I then rode several; Checkmate, Happy Hooligan, Acacia, By Jeminy, etc. Mostly Roxanne was my teacher. She had red hair. I rode on Saturday mornings at 9:00. I couldn’t wait to go every week. I did some shows there and I remember Jimmy Cantwell judging a show I was in and he placed me first out of 26. I was so happy. When I rode there, Meg & Liz Malone were riding there. I’ll always have fond memories of the place. It kept me out of trouble. lol. I hear Pam has a farm in Northern Va. and I’m sure she’s doing well.

A bit late to the party, but I just found this site by Googling Hillcrest Virginia Beach as I was just taking a mental stroll down memory lane…I rode at Hillcrest before Pam moved to the “new” barn in Virginia Beach, she was Pam Cantwell then. I was 6, so that would have been around 1963. I did a few lessons at the new place too, and my vague memories tell me she went in with her brother, whose name I don’t recall, and he designed a barn that had an inside riding area around a block of stalls in the middle, and stalls on the outside, all covered, so he could ride year round. Are my memories correct? I won quite a few ribbons in the little shows Pam used to put on for her students, and once I got kicked in the jaw when I was not careful about going around the back of my pony. I learned my lesson! Later, in sixth grade, I started riding at Creekmore’s Ride-Awhile, not sure why my mom moved me, and then as a pre teen went to Triple-R-Ranch and got into Western riding. Now I have 5 acres in Clovis, CA, with a 6 stall barn and several horses my oldest daughter maintains. This is a great site!

Totally an aside but I bought a pony from the area in the mid 90s and was wondering if anyone knew about him. He was a chestnut large named Beaucephus and we were told he was a Cymraeg Rain Beau baby who would have been born in the early-mid 80’s
