Did you ride at Hilcrest Farms in Va Beach, Virginia in the late 80's?

I was a working student there many years ago and I know that Pam Baker now has a farm in NOVa but I was wondering what ever happened to some of the people who rode there in the 80’s like I did. I know the farm is now a subdivision- no surprise there
I was just curious to see if anyone I rode with or if any of the instructors there were still around.

These people were at Hillcrest more in the early rather than late 80s but I know that Winn Reid Alden, Chris Wynne, and Pam Herman are professionals and are still in Virginia.

All 3 of the professionals are in Va still. Winn rides for pam and chris and pam herman are professionals in va beach. My mom grew up rinding at hillcrest in the mid 60’s teaching camp and even living there her jr and sr year of high school.

I rode there in the 70’s, but Laurie Lake who was there when I was a kid there, has her place in Va, Beach, called “West Neck Creek Equestrian Center” She worked for Pam Baker and did lessons back then as well.

I rode in the area until 1991, as a child.

Who was the instructor that taught with Chris Wyne at Breckenridge around that time? She always wore a bandana on her head.

I’ve been watching this thread with “bated breathe”. I rode at Princess Anne in the 80’s. I was young, and not good with people names, but I think the instructor’s name was Cindy. I was a once/week working student+group lesson. I hate to hijack(seriously sorry), but if anyone knows about PA people from that time frame, I’d love to hear about it.

I rode at Princess Anne also, prior to Breckenridge Manor. We lived in the neighborhood across the street from the farm. I was there prior to Barb, through Barb, and left shortly after the husband/wife team came in. I rode Leah. Memories.

I wish I had more memories, but military living is not conducive to continuity of memory. I really have trouble remembering names from that era. I mostly rode a pinto named Star. I do remember a dude named “Shel” taking over. He and my mom did not mix.

I rode My Dumpling at Hillcrest before Pam moved to VA Beach and her name at that time was Pam Cantwell. I was 8, I think, so that would be 50 years ago… still some of the best memories I’ll ever have.

Sue Brown?

Haha awesome! I showed at Princess Anne A LOT- is it still there? I doubt it since the whole East Coast is being bought up by the big box stores. :frowning:

I too was a military brat and yes, some of my best memories riding are from my show years in that area.

It’s still there. They have a facebook page. It looks pretty much the same, maybe a little more wear and tear.
Sometimes I miss the hunters, but things were a little different back then.

Yeah I’ll say. Maybe I was more niave then but I don’t remember some of the show ring antics going on that I see now. Trainers trained your horse instructors taught the rider. Traditional dress was mandatory, you braided for your shows no butts about it, nowadays things have become so lax that it just doesn’t seem the same anymore. :frowning:

Are you talking about the same Sue who eventually had Stable Time? If so I rode with her for years in the 90s when I visited my Dad in the summers.

Yes…she was at Hillcrest for years prior to Stable Time, where her name was, as still is, Sue Niedenthal. My daughter rode with her as well.

Who is your daughter? I rode and and showed all summer with her 94-2000 (Stable Time into Sterling Meadows). Do you ever see her? I’d love to catch up with her, I loved my summers w/Sue!

Daughter’s name is Andi. She had a pony named Star and Rainbeau’s Northern Belle. She showed as well, so you guys are bound to know each other.

Sue is currently living in Canada, but was here for a long visit this summer. We had a nice cookout for her…lots of fun talking about the “old” days.

Wow small world I totally know her! I remember Star and Belle, too! You guys might not remember me because I was only there in the summers. My name’s Jamie, my dad was Bo. I never had my own horse down there, but rode Itty Bitty, IC, Nutty Buddy and Calli a lot. I did all the summer camps and was basically there 6-7 days a week.

Yes, Jamie, I do remember you…it is a small world. I’ll be sure to tell Andi you posted. Do you remember Kim and BooBoo? She is now the barn manager where we board.

I want to say the trainer’s name was Donna… I just remember she always wore a bandana on her head.

When I was at Breckenridge Rockie and Love were there… I think someone told me Rockie is still there???
