Dimensions for framing new stall door?

Somewhat of a spin off on adding exterior doors to an existing barn… Looks like most stall doors measure 4’ x 7’. So if creating/framing a new opening for a 4x7 slider, what are the dimensions of the opening? Can’t find good description online…

It’s going to depend on the size of the frame that holds the door. A 4x7 door probably needs a rough opening that’s 1.5-3" more on each edge, again depending on how the door itself fits into the frame.

The installation instructions should give the “opening” dimensions. The retailer/manufacture should give this on their website under specifications. Or just send an email asking for it. With doors and windows it is called the “rough in”

It could be 4x7 if it has a stop. There is a track on the bottom to hold the back of the door and a latch on the front so it really won’t matter. It can be a little smaller if you want. It is surface mount so doesn’t fit in the opening like a swinging door

Our doors are 49.75" wide and the door opening is 47". So when the sliding door is shut, the door has the stall frame supporting it on each side to keep it from being pulled inward.
