We recently purchased horse property and the shelter opens into the dry lot (horses come/go as they please—not stalled). The shelter has a dirt floor and can get a bit dusty. I’m feeding them hay in the dry lot right now, but during the winter/rainy days, I want to put the hay in the shelter (in a stock tank). I’m worried about the dust settling on the hay when they’re walking in/out of the shelter. Any suggestions to help keep the dust down? Thank you!
I would put down rubber mats. It will control the dust and also mud in the winter.
Agree with rubber mats. You will still have to sweep some but the mats are well worth it…even a portion of the shed if you can’t afford to do the whole shed.

If you can’t put mats down right now you could also water the dirt footing routinely to keep dust down. If you wanted to prevent hay from getting dusty, you could cover with a tarp until fed.
