Dixie Star, Trail Rider, Lakota - BP w/LQ Opinions

Has anyone seen the new models of these trailers? I understand the Lakota had some bad press a few years back, but I’m wondering if the newer models are improved. What about Dixie Star/Trail Rider? Their website is confusing - are they the same manufacturer?

Mostly interested in construction quality and ease of towing. Looking at the 2H slant with 5’ LQ. Nothing real big, just enough for me, my dog and my horse.

If you find one you like enough to buy, PLEASE post here with the details! I’m looking as well, cause my gimpy old body simply can no longer access the gooseneck bed :(. It’s just empty dusty space now, and very depressing to look at.

If you review some of the older threads on trailers there have been a couple that had good ideas on reasonable systems to make goose-neck access for tack and equipment more practical for us in the “geezer” set.

G.

Two sites on FB to look at, both are about putting LQ in your horse trailer. Gives great ideas. Look at the photos some great ideas.

Now this is a company that sells the Dixie Star trailers.

Most trailer companies will build what you want. I have looked at tons of trailers trying to come up with what I want. My must haves and what I can do with out. I do want a 2 horse straight load. I have to have a place to sleep, a cook top, and fridge. It would be nice to have a sink and a cowboy shower. I would need a port-a-potty if no toilet.

I am going to go with a Hawk Trailer as I like how they are made and order it with a over sized DR then do a lay out for the LQ part. I am not sure yet if I will have hawk do the LQ or if we will build it ourselves.

I love the UK type of trailers with LQ and have got a ton of ideas from them. Here are some of the ideas

Guilherme, thank you for your response. At the risk of detouring this thread, I spent an hour or three looking for the subject matter you referred to. Lots of bashing Exiss threads but no positive alteration threads. If you can link me to even one thread that can give me good ideas for re-configuring my trailer interior for geezer use I will be forever grateful. Thank you ??

I haven’t been able to put my hands & eyes on a Lakota for a while, but what I saw then would make any qualified, professional welder run screaming into the night. Pitiful construction. A trained chimpanzee could have done better work.

If you’re interested, go see them all with a magnifying glass & flashlight in hand. Look closely. Better yet, take a professional welder with you
