DIY custom boot measurement

Has anyone ever ordered custom boots online submitting measurements you’ve taken yourself? I cannot fit into any stock boots because of my small feet and short leg. Vogel is having a special on 3-4 week rush at no charge if you order by May 5th, but only if you order through their website. Dehner’s measurement instructions are equally, if not more, thorough than Vogel’s. At the price point for custom boots, I don’t want to make a mistake. I really need tall boots…I can’t keep showing in brown paddock boots slathered in black shoe polish and black leather half chaps! (Tacky, but works for long stirrup on the local circuit.)

Also, does anyone have opinions about zippers or no zippers? Stock boots all have zippers but the makers of custom boots warn you away from them.

I have always done my own measurements and been very successful. That being said, most companies send a thorough ‘measurement guide’ or a YouTube link to an instructional video. You definitely should get someone to help you, as it is pretty impossible to take your own. Also, follow the instructions exactly, and triple check them all. For example, if it says to wear breeches and socks- do it! Don’t think that it doesn’t matter.

I would have 2 different people do all the measurements, and triple check any variations.

I honestly think that if you are careful and take your time, and have a good helper or two that you should be fine. Good luck!!

My daughter was measured by a rep for caprilli and the boots came in completely wrong… I re-measured her myself and the next set was perfect! So I wouldn’t hesitate to measure myself.

I’ve been measuring customers for Vogels for 25 years. I would never measure myself.
