DIY replacing gas struts on trailer ramp?

The gas struts are dead on my Brenderup. I can get the parts - easy to DIY with hubby help or not?

Update!

It was so easy

I got the Brenderup parts (a door latch, storm door latch and the gas struts) from Andy Kaulbach horsetrailerparts@gmail.com and my husband and I installed them today in what would have been 15 minutes if we hadn’t been needing a certain pair of pliers.

Saved about $250 on installation!

Next DIY job: repainting the wheels.

Nice.

For the wheel repaint, I assume they’re steel. I would prefer to dismount the tires first and have the wheels sandblasted before painting them. Obviously easy to do if you are in the process of replacing tires and you have a few days to follow through the process.

Not replacing tires. Supposing I don’t have a sandblaster handy, is masking and wire brushing acceptable?

Local guy quoted $65 each for new rims, and $25 each to swap them out. I live in Expensiveville! So the job I’d do needs to be cheaper than $360 of time/effort/paint…

Update on the update: I cleaned two of four wheels with Coca Cola and steel wool today. Holy moly. I will never drink Coke again. IT DISSOLVES RUST!

Painting them next week!
