DIY Silicone on Breeches... Anyone Try It?

Exploratory Post… I’ve seen many breeches now with silicone-esque dots/patches/designs - I am wondering if anyone has ever tried doing it themselves to existing breeches, or maybe even regular-people tights? I am not an easy fit in breeches- the few breeches w/ silicone that I have tried haven’t been totally right.

For example, love the SmartPak piper Knit breeches with the silicone full seat swirly design. However, those are a bit heavier of a breech - they sort of fit ok but…meh. not thrilled with the fabric, and they are overly sticky IMO.

I LOVE the kerrits IceFil tights but those little kerrit silicones aren’t all that grippy (these are still my fav’s though, i could live in them if given the choice).

I have tried sticky seats (eventers) and i do like them as tights except that i seem to uhhhh, sweat in those…in bad places.:o

I’ve tried Horze breeches that have a suede full seat and a little silicone ribbon-type design on the seat…that seams to be perfect - not to sticky…except the cut of those breeches just isn’t right for my body. Love the fabrics, love the silicon ribbon design…sigh.

So it got me thinking…could I apply something myself to my favorite fitting breeches? I’m not a fabric or sewing or crafty person, so i have no idea what one could use… anyone?

I bought some of their tights and their full seats at horse expo and LOVE THEM. Both my daughter and I could wear them all day. Nice fabrics (I got a pair with peacock feather pattern on the rump, my dd got fox heads on the rump), and very comfy.

I remember someone on the UDBB posting about applying a “seat” with fabric paint ( I think it was a product like this) on inexpensive leggings. She was very happy with her budget “breeches”!

Or maybe use a dimensional silicone glue.

Give it a try and let us know how it turns out!

I tried using silicone glue from a big box store to help make thigh high stockings stay put (Halloween costume).

The fabric was too stretchy, and the silicone cracked then came off. A different fabric and small dots/shapes might be more successful.

Definitely would try it on some fabric samples, with a couple types of glue.

I wonder what they use to make the sole on those no-slip slipper/socks? That stuff would be perfect. Wow, here it is a kinds of colors!!!

A lot of the felters I’ve talked to swear by RugLock for slipper soles, but I’ve never tried it myself.

It would be much easier to sew ultrasuede on leggings.

Bumping this up - anyone try it since 2016?

Trying to bump up again, super curious about this as I also just would love some more training tights that fit better. If I could put silicone grippies on some align tights from LuLu i would be a very happy girl!

Not breeches, but after reading this thread I did try putting dimensional fabric paint (puffy paint) on the soles of some socks per link in post #4, and after wearing them for an evening they do provide some traction. This may not last long, or launder well (will need to turn them inside out, I’m sure), will find out as time goes by. Don’t know about breeches or tights, as the paint isn’t particularly soft, though might get better with more body warmth. Find an old pair of tights and give it a try. Just keep it to the bum area not the crotch!

You know, I did experiment with some fabric puffy paint on my kerrits icefils - it did end up working pretty well. I’ve been using them for years and while yes, some of my puffy paint dots have fallen off, most have stayed on, and i am not particularly careful about how i launder them.

I did also experiment with puffy paint on faux suede type material- that also worked but it peeled off a little faster, and left some marks. Not sure i’d do that again.

Did you stretch them out when applying the paint or just lay them flat? Also how big are your dots, approximately?

Thanks!
