Isabell Werth Cancelled Dressage Clinic
April 21 / 22 2018
Update On Collaborations.
Jacqueline Brooks and I have been collaborating on a solution for the refunds resultant from the DMF Productions cancelled Isabell Werth Dressage Clinic, April 21st and April 22nd, 2018.
Jacqueline has been in contact with Isabell and Thomas, and as stated previously, Isabell is eager to refund any money that she has been paid. In addition, Isabell would LOVE to come to Ontario with an organized, respectful Host to put on a Dressage Clinic. Jacqueline is working on this. Jacqueline has also been in contact with a lawyer in order to determine the next steps.
Given the aforementioned, I decided the interviews with Sean O’Shea Global Consumer SOS were redundant. Thank you so very much to the over 20 Equestrians who stepped up to be interviewed.
Please be patient as we work through these processes.
In the meantime, we encourage all of you to continue to contact your bank, credit card, or PAYPAL to initiate the dispute process in order to get reimbursement for the monies lost due to the cancelled clinic. When you receive your credit card or PayPal refund, please contact Kathryn Hendriks either via MMS or Emai so we have a clear accounting going forward.
(Global is a TV station for the reference to Sean O’Shea above. I believe they were ready and willing to do a story about this).
Unfortunately for many of us in Ontario, this does not come as a surprise. I rode in a clinic he organized a few years ago (he also brought up a few hunter and jumper clinicians). The whole thing was shady from the start - changing number of days, format, pricing, promising amenities that were never provided, underdelivering on others, etc. After that terrible experience, I vowed not to give him another cent of my money.
ETA - in case people aren’t familiar with the situation, DMF Productions (Danny Forbes) advertised a clinic with Isabell Werth in Toronto. Rider spots, VIP tables, auditor tickets were advertised and sold. The clinic was originally “postponed” due to “facility conditions” (we had had some pretty bad weather here so it was possibly true). DF announced the clinic would be held later on (I think it was September) at a different facility. People began asking for refunds as they couldn’t attend, etc and weren’t receiving their money back. DF kept saying their tables, tickets, etc would be valid at the postponed event, but some people just wanted a refund, and then couldn’t get one. Currently it appears DF and DMF Productions has disappeared - website dmfpro.com is down, FB page down, etc.
I guess that means that the Texas one won’t be happening either?
Not sure, but according to Eventbrite you can still pay for the Texas event and some other jumping events. Whatever that means.
If you have not already bought tickets, I would absolutely NOT buy them at this point. I see the Louise Serio clinic is still showing tickets for sale (at Angelstone in July) but there is nothing on the Angelstone site…I would steer clear of this too.
No, I won’t be handing over any of my hard earned to perpetuate this guys “business.” Shame, we’d been plotting a barn ladies trip…
Forbes has told people in Canada that he was cancelling the other planned clinics in his schedule. The fact the ticket sales pages are still live is appalling. If you are in those areas, please warn your friends and local groups.
I don’t know about the other clinics but given Isabell’s response to the travesty over her Canadian clinic, I can’t imagine she would work with DMF Productions ever again on any other events.
I would advise against purchasing any tickets from a DMF production at this point. I found an article identifying it as “now defunct” - the topic isn’t the IW clinic but could be enlightening to anyone who is wondering about getting a refund.
Is this the same db who was doing a terrible job with the Charlotte clinics, etc? Cause this guy should probably be in jail :lol::lol:
I believe it was Scott Hayes whose first couple of Charlotte clinics had a lot of dissatisfied customers. He seems to have worked out the kinks though, as he’s hosted many successful events since.
I don’t recall DMF ever holding a Charlotte clinic, at least not here. The most recent new that come to mind for me that he organized in Ontario were George Morris and Ingrid Klimke.
People who paid via credit card and PayPal have had success getting refunds from those companies. To my knowledge Danny has not refunded anyone any money himself and in fact claims he has none to return, because it is all held in trust by Isabell’s agent as a payment gaurantee to her per their contract.
Yes I think Scott Hayes is who I’m thinking of, ty!
Which isn’t to say that those went off without a hitch. There was some major venue moving hijinx with the Ingrid clinic several years ago. I can’t recall the details specifically (I believe there was a late scheduled venue change - and the new venue made it impossible to offer a subscription to a live stream of the clinic as he had been enthusiastically advertising?) but he was wildly unhelpful to deal with. Very happy to take a person’s money but assistance after that point? Good luck.
There was another person who advertised and took money for, and for which people paid for flights and hotels… Not all refundable… the Carl Hester clinic at Kentucky horse Park the first weekend in December, 2017.
That was a big waste of money that I will never see again unfortunately.
I believe both of those clinics generated some significant customer service complaints and other issues.
