DMSO on a bruised heel bulb

Anyone used DMSO on a bruised heel bulb? Horse has come up lame after jumping on hard ground, dx’ed as having bruised heel bulbs (she stumbled through a jump and possibly whacked herself).

They say time cures all, but is there anything I can do to assist? Soaking boots with epsom salt was another suggestion, or even standing her in the creek (cold water) daily.

I use DMSO on the heel bulbs and sole for abscesses. I haven’t ever used it for a bruised heel bulb, but as long as there’s no open wound don’t see why it would be bad? But maybe someone will chime in with more of a YES or NO answer…

I love DMSO for a lot of things but I’ve always shied away from using it on hooves because it would be difficult to get them clean enough before hand. DMSO will take anything it’s mixed with through the skin. I’m not sure I’d want foot funk going that way. Just my 2 cents. I bet it’d help but it’d be a pita to get things clean and dry enough.

I have the same reservations about using dmso on the feet. Always wondered if I was being overly cautious, so it’s good to hear the same concern from someone else!
