First: cat’s kidneys are A-OK.
Second: cat is not drinking excessive amounts of water, nor is the litterbox overly wet.
Our failed-foster Twilight is obsessed with water. She is especially obsessed with running water (likes to drink from the hose/tap) and likes ice cubes in her water bowl. She does not really cry for fresh food. She cries and will beg when you bring her a fresh bowl of water. With ice cubes.
Our first thought was obviously CRF. Nope. Then we figured she just liked clean, cold water. She doesn’t drink an abnormal amount of water. Doesn’t hunker over the bowl. But she clearly loves water.
Now she’s become obsessed with us in the shower. She sits outside the glass shower stall and cries. She’ll try to lick the water out of the door track. If you open the door she tries to catch the (HOT) spray. And when you come out she will cry and start licking your legs/feet, even stand up on your leg like a dog might. Tonight she actually got into the running shower (briefly)
This morning I turned on the faucet for her to drink from, she took a couple of sips, then ran over to the shower and tried to lick the water from the track.
I also upended a planter in the yard and some rain water was in there (nasty, green gross) rainwater, and she was determined to drink that too. She’ll knock her bowl of water over to lick the spilt water off the floor (that’s her newest trick…)
Do cats need mineral licks? Should we take her in for another blood panel looking for something specific? Or is she just a garbage gut?
