Do I need a stock tie?

After many years of just doing schooling shows, I might be doing my first recognized show which is a 3 day show at the Beginner Novice level. Am I reading this right that I do need a stock tie with pin?

Section Ev 114 5-b “Horse Trials (Intermediate and Advanced) & Three Day Events. As above except no tweed coat. Tail Coats permitted. Shirt—stock with pin; Gloves (required)—white or dark color;”

Or is it not considered a 3 day event and I should follow this:
“5. DRESSAGE TEST.
a. Horse Trials (Beginner Novice through Preliminary)—protective headgear—
predominantly black or dark blue; Coat—dark color or tweed, tail coats are
not permitted; Shirt—white or light color, with stock and pin, or choker, or tie;”

I guess they are calling it a “horse trial”, but it takes place over 3 days.

Confused

The rules for HT are what you would follow. You do not have to have a stock, a simple ratcatcher is fine. You can also wear a collared shirt with tie, but you will see mostly people with stock ties or ratcatchers.

You do not need a stock tie. I use a snap collared ranch at her.

Stock ties are cool.

Oh, that was BOW ties are cool? NM.

FWIW, I kind of like the stock tie look. But you don’t need, esp as coats are very nearly not necessary (for those of us at the LLs anyway).

If you do want one, however, these are lovely. Ordered one when I was at Galway Downs 2 years ago.

Dara James Designs (on FB and www.darajamesdesigns.com) has an incredibly wide variety of colors, fabrics, and styles of stock if you DO decide you want one and don’t want the boring old plain white.

I’ve been coveting a custom stock for a while now, but since I haven’t been to a show of ANY level in nearly 3 years, just haven’t been able to justify the purchase.

Correct, you do NOT need a stock tie with PIN

No, it is NOT considerd a “Three Day Event”. It is a Horse Trials, regardless of how many days it runs over. For US National competitions, it is only a “Three Day Event” if it has “Three Day Event” in its title, and includes Steeplechase and “Roads and Tracks”. (FEI Three Day Events run under FEI rules.)

and I should follow this:
“5. DRESSAGE TEST.
a. Horse Trials (Beginner Novice through Preliminary)—protective headgear—
predominantly black or dark blue; Coat—dark color or tweed, tail coats are
not permitted; Shirt—white or light color, with stock and pin, or choker, or tie;”

Yes, it is a Horse Trial regardless of the number of days it runs.

IMO whoever looks the most like George Washington is the best dressed. Or at least, that’s what I tell my non-horsey friends when they see me in my stocktie and shad belly (:

As stated, no. No neck napkin required.

Well of course you do! What easier way to feel sophisticated and proper! They are a simple, yes, elegant accoutriment needed for a rider.
Full disclosure: I am not an eventer, but a simple foxhunter.

I’m just starting to event at Intro level and I wear a stock tie for even schooling shows. Why? Because I wear it over a white polo shirt and with a coat on no one is the wiser  and then I don’t have to change for stadium and x-c. I made mine, took about 15 minutes, and only takes a minute or two to put it on and pin it so it fills in the neck of my coat. Or you could cheat and get a clip/Velcro on one. But what is the fun in that

Definitely don’t NEED a stock! I came to eventing from hunterland, and show dressage in my hunt coat and white hunter-style show shirt. No one’s ever given me points off.
