I have 4 cats who never go outside. I am considering forgoing my usual monthly flea treatments (purchased from vet) due to the expense. Is this a stupid move?
I usually never give my house cats flea stuff, no dogs come in normally. I never see flea eggs and they don’t scratch either. I keep a close eye for this, however.
Many many years ago, my fav. cat got sick from too much flea stuff and now I prefer not to use chemicals if not indicated.

I wouldn’t worry unless I saw any signs of scratching or bites. Just have to be aware when around other’s animals, if you pet someone’s critter who has fleas you could bring them home. But if you don’t have a problem now, probably safe to stop treating!
I have never treated my indoor kitties with flea meds. And they’ve never had fleas. I did have a vet strenuously try to convince me that they could still come up heartworm positive without monthly treatment…but, I find that highly unlikely and I’m willing to chance it in exchange for exposing them (and us) to less chemicals (that I think are pretty much totally unneeded).
Now, if you have dogs or other animals going outside and coming in that may expose them to fleas and ticks? Then I might consider it. But for only indoor kitties? Nah.
I’ve had indoor-only cats since the early 1990’s. Have never seen a flea. No meds or any sort of insecticide required.
I have to keep my two indoor only cats on flea meds. We live in an old farm house and the field mice that make their way inside bring fleas with them
Only other animal is my horse and he doesn’t get to come in the house!
Ditto this. I live in the converted milk parlor of an old dairy farm which is actually connected to a barn. I had no flea problems with my indoor cats before I moved in but now I have to be vigilant. I got a break over the winter but saw my sensitive guy scratching over the weekend so I guess it’s time to resume.
My 5 indoor cats are on flea control because of the 4 indoor/outdoor dogs. Fleas are a real problem for me - I often have to premise spray the house and deal with infestations even though all are on monthly flea products (Trifexus for the big dogs, Advantage Multi for the chihuahua and regular Advantage for the cats). It is a PITA and very expensive, but there is no not treating for it - the fleas get really bad if I don’t stay right on top of it.
My kitties, all indoor get advantage from June to September … only because fleas are rampant outside and I keep my windows wide open in the warmer months. The kitties hang in the windows all day. They never had fleas but better to be safe than infested 
Nope, I dont flea treat indoor cats.
In our case, the dogs were all already on Revolution when the indoor cats got fleas. I also saw two large dead field mice (Jeeves at least takes out the invaders) crawling with fleas. so, now it’s Revolution all around and we stocked up on flea bombs at TSC’s end of season clearance.

I use it. My cat is indoor only, never goes outside, and is never around other cats. Yet she still managed to have tapeworms show up one year in her checkup, and the vet said they come from fleas. The fleas can come in on your clothes or possessions and it only takes a few to cause a problem. I have not had a problem since using the Revolution.
Depends largely on what area of the country you’re in. In Texas, it’s flea season year round. When I had cats in my apartment that never went outside, I still had flea treatment done on the carpets and used flea treatment on the cats, because apparently I was bringing them in with me. Now, with the two indoor-outdoor dogs, we have to flea-treat everything except ourselves.
Oddly enough, we didn’t see a flea last summer, with the horrific drought. This year, lots of rain, lots of fleas. Think I’d still choose the fleas, though. :winkgrin:
