Pretty sick if trainers are taking advantage of their authority position to line their pockets at the expense of their students trust. I think trainers should get paid if they provide a service, but not like this , what do they call it “payola” scheme ?

You are referencing CWD specifically here. Hah. I know how a certain trainer’s “sponsorship” agreement is written. Let’s just say she still doesn’t own a CWD.
haha,we must know the same person!

Having an issue with this right now. Trainer has a custom saddle for a horse with a very different shape from the one I just bought. She would like me to buy her ‘old’ saddle so that the saddle company will make her a new one (that’s the deal for her). If it fit my horse, this would be great. I actually bought her old dressage saddle for my other horse. Unfortunately, it does not fit my new horse and she is really pushing me to buy saying that he is an odd shape and that it is the best fit I could hope for. I am really disappointed in her that she expects me to pay close to 4K for a saddle that does not fit.
Yeesh, for that amount of money you actually could get a custom saddle from one of the less in vogue English saddle makers.
Good for you for being astute enough not to fall for that crap! And extra brownie points for being able to maintain a relationship with your trainer and refrain from telling her where she ought to stick her poor fitting saddle!!!
Interesting conversation about “payola” I first thought it funny but I was talking to a friend of mine who has a tack shop in Florida and she said that she is going out of the saddle business because the “European” saddle companies are paying off the trainers to get their kids to buy the their saddles. A lot of parents who were not aware of this “payola” scheme are a bit pissed off on having to buy a $5,000 that is worth maybe half just the keep the trainer in their “sponsorship”
