Do Weatherbeeta blankets still run large?

Somehow my guy’s wardrobe went missing between barns, so I’m forced to buy him a new one.:cry: Trying to find the most economical ones that’ll stand up to his destructive habits, and it seems like a lot of last season Weatherbeetas are on sale.

I haven’t bought a Weatherbeeta in ages, and when I did, it was common knowledge to order a size smaller as apparently they measured differently than other blankets. Is this still the case? My guy fits nicely in a 81"/82" in other brands (SmartPak, Eous, Shires, Centaur etc.), so am wondering if I need to get him a 78". (The only Weatherbeeta I have for him is an fly sheet that’s at least 7 years old and a 78".)

Thanks all!

In my experience, yes. Especially when it comes to drop length and, inexplicably, their neck covers. I don’t know why they think a horse that wears a size 69 sheet must be 16+ hands tall with the neck circumference of a Clydesdale!

Maybe my horse was the exception to the rule, but I found that they ran quite small. He was a true 81”, but built like a tank. The Weathabeeta 81s were too tight in the shoulders and caused rubs. They were also too short in the drop for him. I switched to Schneider’s and I’ll never go back!

I find weathabeeta fits true to size length wise: 81”. My warmblood has big shoulders and all the weathabeeta blankets and sheets fit him great without rubbing. The drop on his sides has good coverage too. He’s a big guy. Now with my OTTB, his weathabeeta sheet looks big on him but length wise is fine: 75”.

I have 3 Weatherbeeta blankets. I think the length runs true to size, but the neck opening seems oddly large on the standard neck styles while being a bit tight through the shoulder. Particularly his rain sheet. The high neck styles seem to be a bit better, but still tight in the shoulder.

My horse decided to outgrow his 80/81 blankets between his 6th and 7th birthdays, and now needs 84s. I’m going to try different brands for his next set to see if I can get a better fit.

My horse has a fair bit of shoulder and wither, but isn’t particularly wide through the chest so his conformation may not be particularly suited to the Weatherbeeta cut. I will say I’ve been pleased with how well the Weatherbeetas stay in place on my guy and that they’ve held up to his turn out antics quite well.
