I just came across a web site called ripoff report.com and it mentions a complaint against this forum. Is what this person claiming true? That the careers of 12 horse people in the industry have been destroyed by posts made in this forum? What is this all about?
Cheers

Was it posted by someone named Pepperoni?
Here it is, unfortunately no names given -
Freedom of speech might have ruined a few careers. Horsepeople being opinionated/ willing to complain when ill treated might have ruined a few careers. Chronicle of the Horse hosting one horse-themed chat board among many, I doubt it.
The three reports seem to revolve around user beenthere/donkeyman and Elizabeth Mandarino. So…
I don’t think COTH is a protection against libel – if someone libels someone else on COTH, I suspect the perpetrator would be able to be prosecuted.
Having skimmed the complaint, and NOT being a COTH detective, I still will guess this is the young man who was holding himself out as a dressage trainer. His mentioning that the truth will come out when his book is published reminded me of that train wreck.
The date is 2011 so that’s before Pepperoni.
Oh my - didn’t read it all, just enough to get the gist of it, but this forum is pretty open when arguing both sides. The b.s. quickly gets shut up, and COTH has some pretty good sleuths.
Anonymous postings do not get much truck by me.
But I shall be interested in hearing more…hmmm
I do think that sometimes a comment on - say - a stallion, can take on a life of its own and comments will be remembered for ever, even when just an opinion of an unqualified viewer.
Posts on dishonest practices are relatively common, but serve as PSA’s in some cases.

I would say that in instances of any careers being “ruined,” chances are people did it to themselves. Blaming people on internet forums for stating their experiences is a handy way to deflect blame for ones’ own shortcomings.
There are lots of unethical and/or crazy people in the horse business. Every once in a while they come up here, and people chime in and dig up the dirt (examples: A “dressage trainer” who claimed to have trained to grand prix, who turned out to be someone who could barely ride. A h/j trainer claiming photos of well known grand prix and high level event riders were her, who also stole pictures of well known ponies/riders claiming they were her sale ponies, etc. A seller of OTTBs who repeatedly rips people off and lies about the horses. Etc, Etc). Now, those people can complain about COTH all they want, but they dug their own graves, I would say.
Anyone can complain on Ripoff Report, about anything, doesn’t make every post there true.
Hopefully his book will be copy-edited by someone not quite so “fowl-tempered.”
I don’t even remember the donkeyman thing. Anyone have cliff notes for the lazy?

But someone with a “fowl temper” should be able to home in such egregious errors with eagle-like accuracy.
Wow. I can only imagine what this poster’s Ripoff Report for online dating websites would say.
“DatingWebsite.com allows you to post any picture of yourself using your best angle, and even when it turns out that you don’t look anything like that in real life, the moderators won’t take it down!!! It is DISTROYING my social life!!”
It’s not libel if it’s true. Four years since it was posted and no pile on of similar viewpoints.
I kind of remember the whole kerfuffle when this ROR was first linked to on here as a defense. I want to say by EM either in response to a questionable contest that suckered in some leading names, much to their embarrassment, or in one of the dead Pony left in the crossties Trainwreck threads. I want to say at least one other infamous person “outed” on here has linked to it as a defense as well, can’t remember who though.
At any rate, the person who wrote that ROR was really, truly, obnoxiously unpleasant before they were banned. Anybody can write whatever they want over there. They can on RMHP too but at least they publish court filings, lawsuits and judgements that are geared towards fact finding.
For OP, think you have gotten useful answers when you have asked questions. Go by that, not some old attempt at revenge for something they brought on themselves.

Anyone can post anything on Ripoff Report and it cannot be removed without paying the lots of $$$$.
There was a person who I had a falling out with in my personal life. They went on Ripoff Report and slammed me. Insulted everything from my weight to the color of my teeth and called me every name in the book. Mind you, I don’t have a business, nor am I the representative of a business. This was just a vindictive person who I had the misfortune of knowing and cutting out of my life.
I emailed Ripoff Report and was told that my only option was to pay $$$$ to file a rebuttal. The only way they would remove the post is if I were to sue to them. I do not have the time or the energy for that. It’s clear to anyone reading the post that it was made by someone who was clearly mentally unstable and out to get me.

If it’s that guy who also paid for an award in his horse’s name, I don’t think so. The Ripoff Report is from 2011, I thought that particular trainwreck was just last year.
Whoever it is, and what ever it is about, the whole posting is disorganized and rantish.
