Do you recognize this Dutch Harness Horse gelding?

Desperately searching for info on a gelding I pulled from the Cranbury auction who also went through New Holland.

**I have reason to believe he was used in Dressage, and/or may have been a lesson horse.

-17hh Dutch Harness Horse gelding, chestnut with blaze and four white socks.
-Missing most of his teeth
-Has a lump above his right eye
-Has some graying or roaning on the sides of his face and legs
-Age unknown, I would suspect mid-teens to early 20s
-Was sent to the auction with shoes on all fours

He was originally at New Holland and then shipped to Cranbury. I pulled him Wednesday 10/25/17. He is safe and warm and has a forever home for me, but I am really hoping someone will recognize this guy who can give me any info on him.

If you recognize him please PM me or email me at shannon.m.andress@gmail.com

Glad he caught your eye and you were able to bring him home!

I love his bone, and big feet and sweet face.

There is a disease that causes resorption of the teeth…Equine Ondontoclastic Tooth Resorption and Hypercementosis… EORTH for short Perhaps discuss it with the vet.

I don’t know anything about this horse, I just wanted to say kudos for getting him. He is handsome!! That trotting pic is va-va-va-voom.

Don’t you just hate the people that used him up and dumped him? I do

Interesting. I will check it out and discuss with the vet. Hoping to get him out there next week to do a full work up. He is currently out of town.

Poor thing. Thanks to you!
He looks quite sound.

He must appreciate the change…
Why are people so cruel and vile?

thank You for your big heart in giving this poor guy a soft landing.
I wonder if this guy wasn’t someone’s competition driving horse. I’ve seen men who love these DHH and drive them into the ground. They usually come to Fl. to train in fall/winter so the timing would be right that this guy aged out of being competitive and they decided to dump him and leave him at the sale. I’ve seen a big name driving competitor
that has a couple DHH that looked a lot like your boy. I will do some checking.

I would appreciate ir very much if you could check!! His blaze should be pretty recognizable I think, because it goes up and over his left eye.

also adding sweet love for that second photo of trotting in the sun What a fine looking fellow. I hope you and your vet can find a good feeding program to keep him happy. I hope, if he comes on, he will enjoy friendly meanders around the trails in your area; enjoying life, being special and loved.

will be interested in hearing what the vet says about the teeth and EORTH. It will be an interesting story to follow and learn from <3

Sorry, no info, but I saw this guy’s post on Facebook as I joined a bunch of local auction (New Holland, Cranbury, etc) groups after I pulled an absolutely lovely pony from Cranbury this summer. I’m so glad he got a nice home! I wasn’t able to find anything out about my pony- from what I can tell, the bulk of horses that end up there end up there from homes that aren’t often tech-savvy or on the internet much (think: Amish, or large old-school horse string operations like sales barns or summer camps, who just don’t have the time to be online.) You might get lucky, though! It’d be so interesting to find out how such a lovely boy ended up in that condition, and in that bad spot.

There are a few dealers on Facebook that sell a lot of DHH and crosses from Amish breeders, so could know something about the horse? ANB Equine, CM Farms, and Jumpp Equestrian. I know ANB Equine has done some auction rescue so she might be a good place to start. CM Farms is a little questionable and I don’t know anything about JE.

Thank you for taking this lovely boy in. He is a very lucky horse!

Thanks for the info guys.

Because of the condition he is in- especially his mouth- I wouldn’t be surprised if he may have actually belonged to the Amish. I’ll check out the three dealers you mentioned.

My my concern is/was that he may have been someone’s loved riding horse (Dressage or any other discipline) who rehomed him to what she thought was a good home but was actually a dealer. I guess maybe that’s not likely, but he is such a nice horse I can’t help think that he was loved by someone in his prime.

Most likely Amish. He looks like the type they would use for a Sunday driving horse. It really depends on how much training he has under saddle to give clues to who had him. I would contact some of the smaller auctions in the PA area to see if he went and picked up by a dealer.

Okay, this is totally off topic, but why is CotH indicating Milocalwinnings is a Greenie with 2693 posts?

Do you have proof he is a DHH or just the auction’s word?

Did he come with papers? If so the breeder should be listed. Did he come with a name?

Did he have a microchip or a Coggin’s Test?

Have you sent a picture of him to DHH breeders in the US? www.adhha.org

Have you determined if he is broke to drive? or to saddle? neither or both?

Lots of questions I know

Theoretically, I think that could happen if you uncheck the default box and enter Greenie as your custom user title. You could probably also give yourself a higher one this way, like Schoolmaster even if you just have a few posts.

If he is broke to drive with extensive dressage training that does point towards a CDE horse. The dressage tests are pretty demanding, especially at the upper levels and many times the horses are schooled under saddle in addition to driving.

Good luck with him.
