Do you wait for your results...

at a schooling show? My mare had her first event this weekend and she was such a doll!! I don’t care about ribbons or placing but would have liked to see my test but we were packed up and it wasn’t ready yet. I didn’t think it was fair to my mare or dh to make them wait so we left. But I am still so curious! I am 99% on my own so I was looking forward to some feedback.

I do not event but in my sport (reined cowhorse), the results give you good feedback on your ride and where you need to improve. I usually wait on the score sheets. If I have to go, I ask the show secretary or a friend that is there is send me a picture of the judges sheets. I also feel it is important to get my feedback especially since my trainer is 11 hours away and I rarely show at the same locations he does.

I try to unless there is a reason I have to leave early.

That being said if I know I have to leave, I will either ask the organizer to leave my test/ribbon for pick up later or email it to me if possible. I often had that happen when I hosted shows.

I almost always wait for final scores. I do not think it is unfair to my horse, or anyone with me, to wait, unless it is unbearably hot or cold.

I can think of a couple of cases where the scores still were not posted couple of hours after I was packed up, and I decided not to wait any longer, but that is petty rare.

Even if the scores are not finalized, they should be willing to give you your dressage test .

I made the mistake of not waiting before- I went into XC dead last. I left before looking at results because I had a 6 hr ride home. Ended up 6th so would have gotten a ribbon. At a USEA event too so totally kicked my self! Now I at least check online scoring.

It depends on what else is going on whether I wait-- how long the drive is, how late it is etc., but most of the events around here will usually allow you to leave cash to have your ribbon and test mailed ($3- $5 is the norm). Many will even do it after the fact if you offer to PayPal them once the results are posted.

I generally don’t wait very long, once I’m done I’m ready to head home. I have: not gotten them at all (just looked at scores online); had someone else pick them up for me; had them mailed; asked the office to see them before I leave but not take the physical copy; and have even picked up a score sheet and ribbon at the next event at the same venue a month or so later.
Test sheets are helpful, but if it’s going to take too long I’ll leave them. I have enough ribbons so I wouldn’t wait just for that unless it was a high ribbon in a bigger division or move up or something significant.

I normally try to pick up test sheets but don’t often wait for prizegivings as it tends to be a very long day for the horses already.

This year BE has an arrive-compete-leave policy due to covid so there are no prizegivings, however the live online scoring has been fairly quick at most events.

It depends. This past weekend I went to a show that was only about 15 min from the horses and between my house and the barn. So, I did not wait but went back and fed and came back to get my ribbon. If I am using my trainer’s trailer, she prefers to drive so lately I have not been waiting since she doesn’t have time. If I am hours away and think I did well then I do usually wait.

I do CDE, not eventing, but it’s the same idea. One day shows aren’t really a thing in this sport, but dressage/cones on Saturday and marathon on Sunday happens frequently, and the other thing that happens a lot is a loooong drive home. So I try to stay for results but that almost never happens. I’ll give him a good couple hours to cool out and relax, but at some point it’s time to hit the road. I always stick around for the preliminary marathon results, because there is only a 30 minute window to contest the results, and it is a technical sport so mistakes can happen. What can also happen is a certain person (ahem, me) thinks they know what they are doing, only to find out they are wrong after being oh so gently educated by the TD or PoJ. This is why it always pays to be polite even if you are seething with (as it turns out, not so) righteous indignation. And I always pick up the dressage test and that is never an issue since the PoJ has already signed off on that part.

Rarely…But I have good trainers and help and usually know what I need to work on or improve. If I was on my own…I might wait a little…but honestly, depending on the judge, the comments or score sheets may not be all that helpful! The best is if I can find someone to video my ride…that gives me the best feedback!

I at least like to get my dressage score sheet so we can go over it in my next lesson.
