Do You Wear Nice, Cute, Pricey Clothes to the Barn?

I love this jacket but can’t imagine wearing it to the barn!!!

http://shop.gooderider.com/p/couture-jacket

I choose most of my barn wear with the conditions that they have to be washable and can handle dirt. Then I see all these cute clothes for riders and think who wears that stuff to the barn and gets it dirty??? Fess up!

Ummm, not in that color. Slobber green with dust and hay colored piping would be more appropriate. But it’s a cute coat for wearing to the barn to watch somebody else ride or work. Sort of a lesson parent look.

Far as me wearing cute stuff to the barn, depends on the barn. Working at it, no. Client at full service barn? Sure.

I bought the FITS Allie Jacket and love it so much i just wear it to work. Was not meant to be that way.

All of my clothes become barn clothes at some point in their life. but I keep mine at home. (A wisp of hay can usually be found on me even at my cleanest). If I boarder out and had full service (which I don’t and have little desire) I’d totally Rock that coat. But since I’m like Pigpen, it’d be dirty regardless.

I’m into horses and therefore do not have any Nice, Cute, Pricey clothes

If it is comfortable, functional, and can handle the wear and tear…yup! That is where I spend most of my free time so I might as well not look like a total frump. P.S. I normally don’t buy them because of cost so normally do look like a frump

LOL

Despite having designated “work/nice” coats and “barn/can get dirty” coats, I inevitably end up at the barn on my way home from work, and thus, do not own a single coat or vest that does not have some sort of crumbled horse cookie/random piece of hay lining the pockets

I totally trash myself and my clothes on a regular basis. Most of my clothes have a paint smear, and or stains and holes. I am always saying I should be a product tester because I just wear stuff right out. In my dreams I could wear that coat, reality is a whole different thing. There I fessed up.

I tend to buy nice, cute pricey clothing when it goes on sale. I do find that higher quality items last longer so I am willing to spend a little more if it lasts. If you can get it on sale then it’s not so bad.

As for that jacket, agree with others that it does not appear to be particularly practical in that colour!! But then again I am the person who ends up with sweat, slobber, etc all over me every time I go to the barn, while others can show up in a while polo and finish looking as pristine as when they arrived.

I have a Goode Rider jacket that is far too nice to wear to the barn. I wear it when I’m out on construction sites instead… I always get compliments on it!

I have another one of theirs that is indeed washable and that one I do wear to the barn–not my everyday barn jacket, but my lesson and clinic and need to look a bit tidier jacket. It will step down to being my everyday jacket when the one that fills that hole now dies.)

We are a stylin’ barn, however. We all like our clothes

I buy the nice, cute pricey clothing. I figure if I’m going to be covered in horse hair, slobber, poop and smell like last weeks’ gym bag that I may as well look like I tried underneath all that. The fabrics and cuts wear and look so much better after years in a barn. I am extremely particular about my riding clothes. I won’t even let my husband wash them. They were carefully chosen and I love them.

A lot of my barn clothes started out life as nice, cute, and [once in a while] pricey, but eventually, as they became a bit worn looking, got promoted to barn clothes. I like to look nice for lessons. I always say, if I can’t ride good, I can at least look good.

No, but I’m wearing my Goode Rider full seat jeans right now at work. They’re too nice for the barn.

Hail to the NO. My barn clothes are my formerly halfway decent clothes. If it has a spot on it, it becomes barn wear. My formerly nice jeans are my barn pants.

I have show coats that didn’t cost that much. (They were RJ Classic on clearance.) The closest I’ve come to cute and pricey at the barn is I’ll wear my J Peterman jeans sometimes.

I should add that I don’t buy anything that isn’t on sale!

This is me too

I have a few items here and there that are “riding attire” but I buy lots of UnderArmour, Columbia or other similar type of wear that works just as well for riding. I like breeches for riding only; cannot see wearing breeches for regular pants. Don’t people ask what the full seat or knee patches are??! Of course, I work in an insurance office…if you work in an animal test lab, or a vet clinic, different story I suppose.

like others, my barn clothes are often my formerly nice clothes that have been degraded to “barn status” with age. However, mine are usually moving down from “pajama” status to “barn” status so, ahem, they were never all that fancy to start with.

That, my friends, is what happens when you keep your horses at home. If you are like me, then today you ride in fleece pants with the Grinch on them tucked into your chaps and Bogs, and congratulate yourself on your genius for staying warm. And hey, at least you are riding, and it’s winter, so who cares! That in and of itself is a win, as anyone who has horses at home with no indoor in a northern state knows.

I have very nice, cute clothes for trying horses out, having someone come out to try my horses, and “barn girl days” when we go to big shows to watch or audit clinics. I also got them on sale. They only see horses when the horses, stalls, and tack are already clean.

If I’m schooling in a western saddle I’ll wear jeans and a tshirt. If I have an english lesson I’ll have a fitted polo tucked into my breeches with a belt. I don’t like wearing baggy tshirts when I’m riding because it’s easier to actually see my position when it’s more fitted. That said, my friends with the $60 polos absolutely LOVE my bright colored, well fitted, $5 Walmart polos.

If I come out to work there all day you better believe I will be in well used athletic shorts and an old tshirt. Dress great for first impressions, but if you’re there to get sweaty you will get tons of laughs in your $75 polo, $50 belt and $400 pants.

I buy a lot of technical fabric tops from outdoor brands (Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, Patagonia, Nike Dri-Fit) to wear to the barn, and decent breeches (usually Smartpak Piper). I also wear button ups that have a spot or something that I can no longer wear to the office. I usually don’t buy cute/pricey horse brands or things that are impractical for the barn like that Goode Rider jacket. I find that nice outdoor brands purchased from Sierra Trading Post or other discount outdoor shops to be the best bang for the buck at the barn.
