Dock diving

Took Enzo out about a month ago to try dock diving again. We had tried once last year and it went miserably, but thought with a better trainer it might go more smoothly. Well, apparently he’s part fish, because he took to it like he’s been doing it for years.

This photo was taken today at our third practice session and first time on this dock. I think he’s ready for the competition this weekend!

Anybody else dock dive with their dogs?

Love it! Looks like he’s having fun! Good luck at the competition!

Awesome!
I live watching the dock diving “fails”. There was one, where a Corgi, ran out and jumped putting in a huge effort but only went about a foot, and dropped like a rock.

No, but back when I raised Labbies, my youngest was absolutely infatuated with the water. We used to have a camp on the lake. Labbies 1 & 2 would hop in, swim around and enjoy themselves. Labbie 3 would hop in, come back with floating frisbee, demand the toss, fly off the dock, return. Over and over and over and over and over. She would go so hard, she’d eventually be horking up water then run right back in. She would never just hang out after a swim. She had to be IN the water. We’d have to lock her on the screened porch eventually where she would cry and cry until we all came in. :frowning:

When I first saw dock diving, I thought of her, but had too many irons in the fire at the time. She would have been a star.

Will be interested to hear how it all goes! Congrats!

Oh, you’re going to have so much fun. I never heard of this, but it looks like it would be a great deal of fun.

I had to see if I could find that Corgi fail. And, here and here is a video of one. Corgi dock jump.

I just took Keeper for the first time yesterday. He’s a fan!

Corgi dock dive fail

What a fantastic photo! I looked into doing it with my heeler and talked to some different people but never actually managed to get into it. He was more food motivated than toys and wasn’t built at all to be a jumper (he was more stocky than streamlined) so I don’t think he actually would have been very good at it anyway and I lost him last year at 14.

I made my video public. Here is Keeper’s first introduction to the dock diving pool. He says discretion is the better part of valor: I’m using the ramp!

Too funny! That’s how my fat cat jumps. Her a$$ is full of lead.

Oh my gosh that Corgi has me dying!! And how timely too, because I ran into some friends at the show who have Corgi’s and had to show it to them too.

Keeper is a smart boy! Enzo has no self preservation so getting him to launch himself full speed off a dock is pretty easy, teaching him how to get out of the pool was the hard part!

Enzo jumped in his first three “splashes” today and racked up a personal best of 17’6"!!! I had NO idea he was jumping that far, I thought he was around the 10/12ft mark! Suffice to say I am SUPER proud of my boy and how well he did, we’ll be jumping again Sunday, where if he does as well he can earn his first title!

We have our first class tonight. My dog has swam 3x in his life. I’m sure it will go smashingly well.

Dabbled in this a little bit a few years ago with my dog - so much fun!!

So Sunday was even better than Friday! My awesome hubby came out and acted as my photographer and gopher, which I’m so thankful for. I was shocked by his 17ft leaps on Friday but he blew me away on Sunday launching himself out to 20ft 2in! I had told them if he jumped 19+ I would jump in too, so being a woman of my word I took a swim.
We had a total blast and cannot wait to keep going. It’s so awesome to find something else he really loves and we can do together. Enzo’s full time job is as my service dog, so I really love finding outlets he loves with everything he does for me he deserves it!

Video of the last three of Sunday’s jumps, one practice and the two judged.
