does anyone else think...

Heck, I LOVE the Equestrian events and even I tune out by the 3rd eventing dressage horse - to a non-horse person it’s totally boring.

But hey, if anyone’s watching the women’s beach volleyball on right now (9pm Eastern), what the heck is that glob of black stuff on the US player’s shoulder?

EDITED: never mind, they finally explained it. It’s some special kind of tape (couldn’t get the name) that is supposed to relieve pain and drain the lymph (yep, that’s what he said) from the shoulder on which she recently had surgery.

Beach Volleyball seems like it belongs, but one that I can’t get my head around is table tennis. I mean come on, PING PONG in the Olympics? What were they thinking. And for different reasons, I’m not sure I understand why sports like soccer and tennis are in the Olympics. For sure they are sports in the truest sense, it’s just that it has always seemed like the World Cup for soccer and Wimbledon for tennis were their most important events. Like, wouldn’t a tennis player rather win Wimbledon than the Olympics if for some reason they could only win one?

Badminton! (the sport, not the 4*)

Yes! That was the other one I wanted to mention but for some reason couldn’t remember it. Thanks!

Badminton is GREAT. LOVE LOVE LOVE badminton…although I am a swimmer hunter/jumper/eventer badminton player…so ya lmao

Its not just tap the birdie over the net.

I am totally sick of volleyball at the moment. All these channels carrying the Olympics and what do we get? - a choice of regular volleyball or beach volleyball, grrr! Is it really THAT popular? Plus, I hate watching tape-delayed events.

HA! Glad I’m not the only one!

I was thinking about NASCAR earlier when I was watching. It was the fifth or sixth horse in a row I was watching and this one was spooky and tense and I thought - finally something interesting. Then I remembered that adage that people only watch NASCAR for the crashes.

In case you weren’t sure lymph is lymph node. The lymph system handles, among other things, infections. Draining it would likely be draining any infection out of it so the system does not get overworked and cause problems.

Now I feel better. I was kinda drifting off there from time to time. (Sshh! Don’t tell NBC!)

I watched every stride of every horse! Really!

I’m excited that speed walking is in the Olympics! Good grief, what next, hopscotch? Oh wait…dodgeball!!!

I personally like beach volleyball.
Yeah, it is a little ridiculous equestrian events are pushed to the end of the list, but beach volleyball is dominated by Americans, which helps the popularity too.

LOL! A friend of mine moved to NC last year and is smack in NASCAR country. She told me a few weeks ago that after living with these people for a year now she fully understands why NASCAR is such a big hit…iow, watching cars go round & round & round & round & round & round…yep, that’s about right.

As to the lymph, yes, I knew what it was I was just surprised that that tape would work!

gubbyz!! Olympic Dodgeball!! That would be fantastic! I am so there. The carnage would be something. The horror…the horror…

George Bush seems to be a big beach volley ball fan, too. Did you see him in the sand with the girls? Ick. Did he go schmoozing with any other teams? I doubt it.

My non-horsey daughter and her BF are MAD about the dressage. She cries over the flying changes! She is TIVO-ing everything so she can see every test! This has come out of the blue. She can’t stand her sister’s and my horse passion!

Kinda like Dressage, huh?

If you could compete in a sports bra I would do it … it is way too hot usually to compete in a business suit. Plus with show jumping there is a possiblilty of loosing a boob… more spectator fun!!!

Have you SEEN the men playing beach volleyball? No flubby butts here. They’re about the only men who actual can wear speedos.[/QUOTE]

!!

I’m generally veryyyy anti-speedo, but I was looking at some pics of my hubby from his old competitive diving and swimming days and I had to adjust my predjudice a little

I love him forever, but he’s not allowed to wear them now he’s 38 :winkgrin:

Much worse! Now, if NASCAR would go fast, then slow, then 20-meter circles…then you might have something.

Watch the Watkins Glen road-course race this afternoon!

If you listen to the commentators during a beach volleyball match, they will invariably mention that it is one of the most popular sports at any Olympic venue and the matches are always sold out.

On the AVP tour here in the US, 99% of the men don’t wear shirts. Maybe they’re required to in the Olympics?

BTW, Misty May and Kerri Walsh are on something like a 100 match win streak. They are considered to be one of the biggest “locks” in this Olympics.

(Of course, the US Men #1 seeded team got beat in their opening match by the #23 seeded team from Latvia!)

And I had to sit thru women’s weightlifting this morning before they finally showed the 3rd group of eventing dressage riders. I would much rather watch volleyball!

Sports like volleyball are things the average person can relate to and has probably played, unlike dressage…

Actually I was really enthralled with the women’s weighlifting… Although, I was in pain watching those women strain to lift those barbells…

Why is jumping more popular than dressage?? because of the chance of fences down or rider (unfortunately)…

(Of course, my other hobby is showing dogs and we do get quite a lot of coverage for certain dog shows.)

volley ball I understand and soccer and basketball but RHYTHM GYMANASTICS???
MSNBC has been putting photos from dressage up amongst all the photos they post so that is a plus.
