does anyone else think...

there is something WRONG with the fact that BEACH VOLLEYBALL has been made an olympic sport, and worse yet, that they televise more of it than the equestrian events???

Not to take anything away from the obvious athleticism of beach volleyball players, but… Skin sells…!

but… Skin sells…!

Thanks Terri … I needed a chuckle!

I find it MORE weird that TRAMPOLINE is an olympic sport.

Maybe that’s why we never get enough TV coverage! Maybe those “models” were on the right track. Think about it, track, swimming, volleyball, etc. Most of them wear practically nothing! (or at least it’s skin tight lol)

I believe that Jimmy Wofford suggested that eventers wear spandex to help our ratings.

But me in spandex? shudder

What ticks me off about beach volleyball is that the women wear TINY bikinis but the men? Big t-shirts and long shorts. I protest. Speedos for the men!

OH OH…I have an idea!!

The equestrian riders need to wear bikini’s and bounce around ALOT and we will get awesome coverage in the sports section.

Yup, I’m definitely pissed about this and this is everywhere…from local association shows all the way up to the Olympics! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

And I agree about the speedos…not that I want to see a flubby butt man flopping around playing in the sand but just to make it even.

Not at all. There’s a certain universality to beach volleyball. Unlike riding, which, while it has many great qualities, is not something I think of as “universal.”

Perhaps I’ll be the first to say it this Olympics, though: Synchronized Swimming. Please. Any sport that requires Knox gelatine and makeup in order to be executed should be banished to Channel 324.

Have you SEEN the men playing beach volleyball? No flubby butts here. They’re about the only men who actual can wear speedos.

Men’s water polo-yumyum.

None of those other sports take millions to do so they reach more people…

I dunno…I forgot to wear a sports bra the other day when my friend and I agreed to lunge each other to practice our sitting trot…

NOT pretty. And painful to boot!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol: YOURE KIDDING!!

actually, youre probably not.

I do not think there is something wrong with the fact that BEACH VOLLEYBALL is an Olympic sport. I watched the match between Australia vs Russia and the players are obviously athletes. Of course I wished they showed more Equestrian events.

The thing that bugs me which other people have also pointed out is that the women wear tiny bikinis and the men wear t-shirts and long shorts. What is up with that!

Nope not kidding…and not only that last year it was on PRIME TIME!! It was with the rest of the gymnastics so ya…but still

No. I love horse sports of course, but I am a fan of volleyball also. I used to be very active in the sport. Why is a shock to see beach volleyball as an Olympic sport? Lots of people say that they should get rid of Equestrian events. In fact, I bet there are a lot of more people who (sadly) want to get rid of the equestrian sports over volleyball.

They put on Prime Time the things that people are most likely going to watch, which mostly are sports that people can relate to. The general population knows nothing about horses, and while they do not know the nuances of the rules of volleyball a much greater majority know what volleyball is and can follow the game.

It also likely has something to do with the length of the sport. like weight lifting I was watching last night. All of three seconds and the person either lifted the bar or didn’t. About 15 minutes and the competition is over. A bit of an exaggerations, but the idea is - two days just of the first phase of eventing and there is no clear winner.

Weight lifting - lifted it or not, swimming and track, who was the first one across the line, etc.

For a non-horsey person, all day of horses doing the same things and you don’t even know what they are doing and no idea what’s going on - not as much interest. Nature of the beast.
