Does anyone have a Black Forest Saddle ?

I’m interested in the Shasta model for my short medium width gelding . (Around 13.1 hands , 2.5yrs old , and is not narrow nor wide ) And since he is going to be contantly changing shape I went looking for a treeless .I like this saddle ,so I would like feed back about Black Forests .

Ps. I’m not starting him undersaddle til he is 3 yrs old . I have no idea of his breed ,but his string test came to 14 hands . ANd I know a treelss needs a special pad . Skito , Haf pad , Grandur (sp ?) ,and etc. To provide spine clearance .

And pics to if ya have any .

I’ve got a Black Forest Shasta that I bought 3 years ago. I bought it for my 14 hand petite Paso Fino, and now use it on my 15.1 hand 1300 lb Paint.

I love the saddle, and everybody that sits in it raves about it. I know of at least 5 people that have bought one after trying mine.

I’ve got the Grandeur Vario pad and highly recommend it as well. It’s $$$ but is worth it.

I prefer this girth to the ones Black Forest sell: http://www.actionridertack.com/c-236-dressage-girths.aspx

One word of warning–it will look kind of funny when you first get it. The seat will be very flat looking. But after a few rides it will start to hold more of a “saddle” shape in the seat.

![](y son rides in one and loves it. His is the synthetic version.

To contact more people who use Black Forest Treeless saddles and other brands you should join the treeless saddles discussion group on Yahoo! groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/treelesssaddles/ . There are lots of people there who are very knowledgable about horse conformation and the different model types and how they fit. The one thing that I would worry about with the BF Shasta on your little guy it how the girth would fit him. Those panels can be really long on a 13 hh pony and you might need a tiny little girth that may put the girth buckles in his armpits. My best suggestion is to demo first.

Okay . Thank yall !

I know this lady on another forum and she made her own Treeless . It had panels and it was very nice . And she made it just how she wanted in . She had a perfect sweat pattern . And it’s holding up too .

But I thought the panels were too long for him . By the pictures anyway .

I don’t ride in one, but several people at my previous barn do. They absolutely love them. The makers are local to us, and so brought by saddles for them to try. I remain impressed with the quality of the saddles. Very adaptable.
