Does anyone have any experience with HealthiStraw bedding?

Can we have a discussion about the pros and cons of chopped straw as stall bedding, please? I’ve been thinking of making a switch from bagged shavings to bagged straw because it is supposed to compost faster and might be a bit more cost effective.

I tried the Standlee brand chopped straw and found it to be very absorbent but too dusty for my needs. HealthiStraw brand advertises that they clean their straw after chopping to remove most of the dust - making it at least as clean as the bagged shavings that I currently use. It looks like one bag of their product would cover about the same in cubic feet as two bags of the shavings that I use.

Has anyone used this product? What did you think? Thanks so much in advance!

they make it near me. It is pretty much dust free, easy to muck and looks nice. It is somewhat slippery if you have a stall with all new bedding. Bags are very compacted which is nice for how much you get, but a pita if you only want a part bag to re-bed with. I find I muck out about as much volume as shavings - absorbancy is on par. One bag of it is about the equivalent volume wise and function wise as two bags of the local shavings.

Thanks Sherian! That’s really helpful.
