Does anyone have genius ideas for taking a nameplate off of a saddle without scratching the saddle?

The previous owner definitely did not want this nameplate to fall off. It is very secure.

I thought about a flat head eyeglass screwdriver but I’m chicken that I’m going to scratch the heck out of it working the head of the screwdriver back behind the plate. Do I just need to get over it? Does anyone have a clever way to go about this?

If you’re careful, you can use a Dremel-type tool to destroy enough of the screw to remove the plate.

I’ve pulled out the nails with pliers on several saddles.

I thread a needle w dental floss and very carefully work it behind the plate and then use the dental floss to pull nails out.

My most recent saddle I chickened out and had the local saddler replace the nameplate. Worth the $20! They’re still doing business at the moment but I understand that the situation varies from place to place
