Does anyone here feed Ziwi Peak?

I am about to try my JRT on Ziwi Peak and I was wondering if anyone here has tried it.

Background, my JRT is currently on Wellness Core Raw Rev Small Breed. He has allergy issues and I’ve tried the usual non-grain free options that people suggest like Pro Plan, Royal Canin, etc. He chews holes in himself with any of these products, so it’s grain-free for us, but he has a sensitive stomach so not just any grain-free will work either.

I need feathered protein- turkey, duck, chicken, quail- with small bites. He is older and has had a few teeth extractions and the rest just aren’t in the greatest shape.

He does ok on his current dry food with a bit of tinned food mixed in, but there are freeze-dried chicken pieces in this food and lately, they have been too large for him to safely eat on his own so I’ve had to pick them out.

I know that Ziwi is “air-dried” chicken, but does anyone know the size, texture, and hardness of the bites? I ordered the smallest bag to try and I have 2 other dogs who will gladly eat the food if he cannot, I’m just being curious while I wait for Chewy to ship the food.

Any experiences with this food? Thoughts?

I use it for treats. Too pricey for me to use as food. It’s pretty tough, Akin to jerky. You might look at the Honest Kitchen Limited ingredient line

I use Ziwi Peak Lamb (or used to) for training/trial treats.

My two BTs get Fromm Gold Small Breed Adult and top dressed with The Honest Kitchen Limited Ingredient Duck.

The Honest Kitchen now makes a crumble (IIRC) that makes a nice treat… easily chewed and pretty much spill-less (which is frowned upon in nosework trials  ).

My guy cannot eat Fromm, I tried a few varieties a few years back and it was a no. I will look at the honest kitchen in case the ziwi doesn’t work out. Thank you!

Decided to log in to chime in, My dogs eat it. Coincidentally, I also have an older JRT w/several extractions. I haven’t tried the chicken (my JRT has chicken allergies), but feed the venison & lamb/tripe. My guy is super picky (finally gave up on Answers & other frozen raw foods he wouldn’t eat). He hasn’t had any problems eating it (he cannot eat jerky- I found this out the other day when a friend gave him duck jerky & I had to remove a piece from his mouth). I’d say the tiles have some texture but are not as tough as a real jerky. Re; price it’s less than the frozen raw foods I’ve tried. Overall JRT is doing well on it.

Maybe something else to check out would be Fresh Pets? They make a very soft “kibble” that’s sort between a canned food and dry. Their website is terrible, at least on mobile, so I wasn’t able to pull up ingredient lists to see if there’s a variety that has what you need, but I used it for a hospice kitty once and was very pleased with it. It’s easy to eat and palatable.

My guy cannot eat it. I mean he eats it fine, but even just a few days of sprinkling a few pieces on his food has given major gastric pain issues. This is his go-to, this dog food won’t work for me symptom, so Ziwi will not work. I will try some of the other suggestions here. Thank you!
