Just as the title says. I have been offered a couple of catch riding opportunities recently with the stated intent that I will ride the horses in competitions. I’m not interested in paying to show someone else’s horse, when I have plenty of horses of my own, so I just want something contractual that explicitly states that all related expenses for the competition are the responsibility of the horse’s owner, not the horse’s rider.
If anybody has anything they would be willing to share, or if they could point me to a professional who would write up something like that for me, I would appreciate it!
TIA
Edited to add: I will be having this conversation up front as well with horse’s owners, but I just want to make sure I have something in writing that protects my interests.
You have pretty much written what you wanted. Might add you as the catch rider would exhibit the horse only (you handed the prepared horse, then once class is competed you hand back).
My oldest daughter spent two summers in Kentucky with our horse’s trainer where she often rode as a catch rider for our trainer and few others who had junior exhibitor horses whose rider could not attend. The horse was needing the ring time to remain sharp so Sara often was offered the ride. She was an accomplished gold metal equitation rider.
All the horse’s expenses were the responsibility of the owner, all ribbons and awards won went to the horse’s owner.
