It was a disney short film before the feature and it was about a girl who wanted to show her horse and she got hassled by the Snotty Teenage Rich Girl. This was around the 60,'s or maybe seventies. I have been doing some research but I can’t find it. I do know for a fact it was a Disney movie but alas, I don’t remember the movie after it. Nor any of the actors in it.
Any help would be appreciated. I know somebody out here will remember it.
The Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit?
Maybe something in this Wiki list will trigger a memory?
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List…-action_shorts
or this chronology about Disney?
Probably not Horse in the Grey Flannel Suit if it was a short, that was feature length and had some plot elements most remember besides the archtypical snotty rich kid characters that didn’t have that much screen time anyway, .Like the fold out bar on the RV and being forced to learn to ride, not perch. butnits possibke OP misrembered a detail or two from 40+ years ago.
I wonder…CW Anderson, also known as an artist, either wrote or illustrated (or both) a short story centered on a girl getting hurt and scared being taunted by snotty rich kids as she hand walked a rehabbing horse instead of riding for months. One day, snotty rich girl comes off, gets hurt, and heroine gets her nerve back, jumps up on now apparently healed horse she was walking and rides for help, including jumps bareback with just the halter.
Something like that, I seem to recall something on film being made by somebody from that story. If it was a Disney, might have been shown both as a theatrical short and on the weekly TV program, Disney recycled even back then. The snotty rich kid was very much a focus in this one. Doesn that sound familiar?
Maybe ‘The Horsemasters’. 1961
It was called Danny. The snotty girl was played by BJ Ehrhardt.
I’m pretty sure the book you’re thinking of was Afraid to Ride, written and illustrated by C.W. Anderson.
I don’t think it was grey flannel suit because the when I googled it, it said Winnie the Pooh was the short film that showed before it.
Danny is too late.
Not the horse masters. I never saw that one until years later.
What I remember is plucky girl rides the horse in lessons and is supposed to be in a horse show and Snotty Teenage Rich girl tries to sabotage her.
I want to say Snotty Rich Girl was played by Lisa Whechel and it is possible because she did work for Disney.
I may be able to remember something more but it was so long ago.
But I figured someone on COTH might have seen it and remembered it.
Also would Disney have shown two horse movies back to back?
I remember seeing The Horse With The Flying Tail and it was a short film before the main feature. But we usually went to the animated Disney movies.
I may actually remember something that will help me if I look long enough.
thanks for your answers.
if I ever do find it in will post an update.
If Lisa Welchel would be age appropriate, Danny should not be too late. But Danny is full length, so there’s that, although otherwise it pretty much fits – the snotty girl made sure Danny was turned loose and he got hurt, and she tried to do it a second time. But anyway, I can’t think of a short, but it sounds worth digging up!
corrected, long time ago…maybe they made it into a short under another title. Doubt it was Horsemasters, that was Annette Funnicello playing a gal who watched her mother killed at a bank and was scared of a similar jump. Wasn’t Frankie Avalon or some similar pop star kid in that one too? It wasn’t bad, actually. Don’t remember much snotty rich kid harassment in that one.
@findeight, you may refresh your memories of Horsemasters on Youtube!

I recently ran across a Horsemasters paperback book - never read it as a kid, but I would have loved it then. Really enjoyed reading it.

I usually find the weird ones in either of those spots.

What color was the horse?
Danny was a grey/white. The film was released in 1977. It was 90 minutes long. Lisa Whelchel isn’t listed among the cast.
That book was Afraid to Ride. I swiped it from my elementary school 30 years ago, still feel guilty but I also still have it. It probably would have been thrown out by now do I kinda saved it…
Run, Appaloosa, Run is a 1966 Disney film, 47 minutes long. –

Nothing specific about a girl rival. But it’s the right time period and the heroine is a young girl.
Thanks for the links xctrygirl. It wasn’t there but there some movies I haven’t seen.
I think the girl didn’t own the horse. IIRC the heroine rode a chestnut. Don’t remember Snotty Rich girls horse.
thanks for your answers.
It’s definitely not Run, Appaloosa, Run – that one is about a Native American young woman who raises horses, has to sell her favorite, eventually gets him back, and they run the Omak Suicide Race.
OMG! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I’ve been wanting to watch this since I was a kid. It’s one of my favourite books. I was binge watching A Handmaid’s Tale, but I’m off to indulge.

I remember that book. It was called “Afraid to Ride” but I don’t remember a movie about it. That was my favorite book.
