My goodness, what could be so stressful in a horse’s life that it would have to be on a calming supplement year round ??

…let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that all the good little hunters out there are naturally so without being lunged to death first. Not all, but I’ve seen way too many. [/QUOTE]
I never understood all the lungeing that goes on to work them down. It just makes them more fit, and stresses the joints. I understand a little morning stretch, but the endless galloping around and around by a groom who has no idea…
That’s a whole other ball game and PP is probably not going to help one of those if it has to be LTD to get it to the ring.
No, that has to do with unsuitable horses, poorly trained riders, owners in too big a hurry chasing glory under the guidance of chicken sh*t, sometimes incompetent, trainers blowing sunshine up their rears to keep the checks coming in. God forbid they should tell the truth about Fluffy the wonder Pony for fear they will pull it out and go down the road to another trainer who will cheerfully treat them like mushrooms.
Oh, the turkey analogy with the L tryptophan? Apparently the average sized human would need to eat the whole turkey to get anything except a mild effect that may have more to do with a full belly then the bird. You get more from the average vitamin pill.
I got no problem with the PP occasionally. But, if the horse has to stay on it 100% of the time to be manageable? Maybe it needs another job.
not a rider
Ok, I come on here occasionally, because I have people I know who ride. That being said, this topic interested me. When I looked up the web site for perfect prep, it states it works on stablalizing blood sugars. Ok, diabetes is something I am very familiar with, and if your blood sugar is out of whack it can cause many disturbing body functions, and it could effect your mood. HOWEVER< the meds you take to help with this, will only help make your numbers be more in the “normal” limits of blood sugars. They are drugs, like blood pressure meds, cholesteral drugs, etc. So if perfect prep is like it’s web site states, I do not see it as a “mood alterating” drug. I see it as a balancing medication. Am I wrong? I am totally a layman here, so just putting in my two cents.
Rhett55 I agree with you. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with the use of perfectprep but I do think that its name is what gives people hesitation. If it were called multivitamin paste, would it have a 6 page thread here?

I don’t get it, either. A lot of times the horse is being LTD at 6:00 a.m. and then doesn’t show until later in the afternoon. The horse has fully recovered by that time.
If you’re going to LTD, do it about 30 minutes before your class and just hope to hell that your timing is right.
Sometimes I think trainers LTD just because everyone else it doing it.
My one gelding needs a hoo ha 15 minute lunge in the morning. My mare gets left alone. The other gelding gets lunged the first day, then doesn’t require a lunge the rest of the show.
