I have observed that horse riders/ jockeys wear a certain kind of watches, is there any specialty in those watches or are they just normal watches.
Event riders tend to wear the Optimum Time watch which is designed to have an extra big face and beep every 60 seconds when counting up or down to help them keep track of time cross country. I don’t think any other riders wear anything specific.
I just wear a cheap normal watch for riding! As long as it’s durable and tells me the time, it’s good enough for the barn lol
I always wore Swatches for riding (the ones that are plastic/acrylic). Didn’t worry about bathing the horse or damage riding or anything. Very tough little watches (at least they used to be).
I don’t wear a real watch at the barn. I do wear a Garmin fit thingy which does tell time, is waterproof, and seems to be indestructible.
My favorite watches for riding are the casio ones from Walmart in the men’s section. They are plastic and pretty indestructible
I got a $20 rubber plastic digital watch at Walmart. I was excited about the potential for doing stop watch and timed countdowns for trot sets, etc. But it is way way too finicky to set when I’m on a horse especially in gloves!
I do find however that the digital watch itself is good enough for keeping track of sets and training sessions.
If you aren’t in an arena with a clock on the wall you definitely need a watch, either schooling or trail riding. You can’t be digging out your phone every half hour to check the time.
Would be nice to have something with a bigger face and controls, but not where I’m putting money at the moment.
I try to take it off to bathe horses, but I think it’s fairly water resistant.
Ha-ha. Just saw previous post. Thats what I have, I’m sure!
Just looked up the Optimum Time watch. They look much easier to use in the saddle. Glad to know about them, probably will never need!
I wear my samsung gear s3 smart watch – and i just downloaded a metronome program to it – hoping that will help me improve my riding.
Ahem. Grammatical construction and the term “horse riders” would indicate that the OP is more interested in selling watches than in horses or riders.
I thought the same thing. However there is no link in their post, so if they are spamming/phishing, they aren’t very good at it!
Anyhow I learned something about what watch to get if you really needed a stop watch in your wrist!
I am trying to imagine the Walmart Casio International Grand Prix.
I just trail ride, so whatever is cheap and has a big face I can quickly glance at because sensitive, opinionated Arab will take any opportunity to be a brat.
Deleted after reading the OP is likely a spammer:(
Walmart Casio Grand prix sounds about as good as the Apple Iwatch or whatever which is what my rider wears to do his grand prix-ing.
On this note, I spent a lot of time with an Argentine gp rider as we lived at the same yard in Belgium. I was mocking his Rolex watch one day, and ge was like yeah, its fake, i bought it on the street in Mexico.
So they also wear Folex watches
Walmart Casio is my new sponsor. It’s not just my brand, it’s my lifestyle. You can look forward to a six page ad spread in COTH of me posing sexily in my muddy field, wearing my fine Walmart skinny jeans and polo shirt and Casio watch, next to my filthy horse and rusty pickup truck.
My BO and I talk about this all the time - thinking we were the only people left in the world wearing under $20 watches… My favorite brand is Armitron. I just picked up a new one from Amazon in a “spring” color. LOL
I bathe horses with it on (and even shower with it on)
I would really like an Apple Watch but I’m brutal tough on all my phones etc, plus I feel like the face is almost too small on them.
lol Just the type of watch I use! Getting older so I need the big face. I really don’t like taking out my cell phone to look at the time.
