Does Hunting exist in MI?

I have myself a nice jumper mare and I mostly just pleasure ride. I plan on doing eventer with a young gelding next year. I overheard someone saying that they go every saturday to a hunt (hunter pace???) somewhere in MI.

This is really unfamiliar territory with me. I am 28 and have spent most of my horse life since I was 11 just having fun and never being real serious about showing. I have decided that with my new gelding that I am going to focus on eventing next year. I have dabbled in the eventing world, but never actually competed. I have just ridden on cross country courses. I would love to learn where I have to go for these hunts.

My mare is 14 and was a previous jumper (4’6"). She tends to get hot, but she is fun and quick, and careful over fences. I am going to try and attach a pic, but her form over fences concerns me for cross country or hunts. She tends to hang her legs, but like I said she is careful and barely ever hits a rail.

Last but not least, what saddle is best reccomended for eventing/hunter paces? I currently have a crosby close contact, and I know I am going to have to sell this and get some type of jumping saddle. What is a good affordable saddle that I can get for around $500-600 used?

One of the posters here is involved with the Metamora Hunt (I suffer from CRS and I don’t want to misname someone). I go out to Waterloo and press my nose against the window pane but I’m not involved in any manner. There’s a club in Battle Creek but they don’t have a web site (unless it’s a new one of which I’m not aware).

If you haven’t already, don’t forget to check out The Eventing Association of Michigan.

Fox Hunting in Michigan

I’m with the Metamora Hunt and we wecome you to come and ride with us. I don’t know where in Michigan you live. Our hunt country is near Metamora, about half way between Flint and Detroit. You can gather a great deal of information from our website: www.metamorahunt.com

If you are a newby, you might want to attend one of our hunts on foot as a spectator first. We hunt Wednesday and Saturday mornings from mid August through the winter, weather permitting. If you are close enough to be interested in us, please PM me and I will give you more information.

Well!! That’s kinda a no-brainer one there, innit? I
should’ve been able to figure that one out on my own, eh?

Only The Shadow knows…

(you have to be a certain age to get the lame joke)

Thanks for all the info! I will have to plan on attending one on foot then. But right now I am scheduled to work Saturday and Wednesday for the month, hopefully Novembers schedule will be different and I can come then.
