Does the Samshield Helmet Liner Compress with Time

Hi All.

I got a samshield for my birthday, and while I ordered the same size that I always do, the padding in this helmet is making it feel really tight. When I take the padding out the helmet is huge (I know you’re not supposed to take the padding out… but the point I am trying to make is that the shell isn’t what’s making it tight, its the padding).

So now I am not sure if I should try to go to the next size up, or let the padding compress. Thoughts from those who have had one for a while?

thanks!

is it expensive to buy a different size padding? And is it tight like headache inducing tight or just snug…because I would say if its headache inducing, just buy the next size.

yes, it does. I think that can be said of any helmet over time and with wearing. You can buy replacement padding for the inside. When I bought mine, it was explained to me that there are 3 different shell sizes, and the padding is what makes it the specific size. The store I got mine at suggesting buying a second padding so I can wash them throughout the summer.

Actually, I haven’t found the Samshield padding to compress much over time. However, I have found Samshield to be inconsistent in their sizing. This is true of pretty much any helmet company–when they update or change styles the fit always seems to change. FYI, I just bought a new Samshield and had to go up a size. I inquired about just switching out the liner, but it seems that you have to go directly to the company for that…just seemed like too much hassle so I sent the entire helmet back and exchanged it.

I had the sizing of the Samshield helmets explained to me exactly as the poster before me, but I feel like they may not be sizing them in this manner any more. I have a couple of them and the helmets and liners are not consistent.

They are made on the same shell as the oneK and the oneK only is a s, m, l helmet so I’m guessing they’ve got a small medium and large shell with gradient padding and you could go a size down in padding.

With my experience (I have had this helmet since October 2012) the padding does not change very much. Maybe a little, but definitely not anything significant. I ride in it a lot and I’m very happy with it!
