Does this exist.... Padded headstall with the ability to interchange nosebands

Maybe not full anatomic headstalls, but a more padded one than say the normal of the old days.

I just am not loving the whole padded with straps that attach to both sides of a noseband.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Maybe even one of the headstalls that allows for the noseband strap to go through and on top of the headstall would work but I am trying to find them sold individually. And yes Bartville can do it, but theirs aren’t as ‘fancy’ as some.

Thanks for any and all help.

The Nunn Finer bridles are mostly made this way. I have one, and after about 8 years of use (and abuse), it still looks great. The crown piece is padded, and the strap of the noseband goes through the browband, then through a slit behind the ears, so that it sits on top of the padded crown piece, but beneath the other straps on the cheeks.

We sell a lot of those at my tack shop. We’ve started carrying just the fancy padded nosebands in different sizes so we can make adjustments for people. They buckle on both sides. VERY hard to find companies that offer the seperate pieces.

I don’t know if you will be able to find the whole noseband that will fit thru your crownpiece

Edgewood makes a regular crownpiece with added padding.

Not sure if they still make them, but my friend has a CWD bridle with a padded crown, and the noseband strap goes through a slot, over the crown, then back through another slot to buckle.

Curious why you don’t like the standard monocrown design, though… switching out nosebands is so much easier thanks to the double buckles.

It’s not cost effective. I mean I have the nosebands that work for me already. I like to be able to adjust them in ways that a fixed crown prevents and I’m just old and whiny. I like my stuff.

Another vote for the Nunn Finer. They wear really well and are nice leather. I’m not obsessed with the stitching but you need to pay about double to get better.

Red barn also does the same thing. You can slip out the whole piece which is really useful for when you are using a hackamore and don’t want random pieces of leather hanging out.

I think CWD and D’yon make crowns that you can buy separately with the design that you want.

But what quality of tack are you trying to match? Because you could probably also buy a whole bridle with a “threaded” style monocrown (so compatible with your current traditional-style nosebands) for not too much money, and then use just the crown (I’m thinking like Dover or SmartPak’s lower-end lines).

Depending on what size you need, also check the JustBridles liquidation page. The options are getting a bit slim, but she might still have something that would work for you.

You can get one like this that has the strap that runs over the crown through a couple loops and you can use any regular noseband with it. I have an Exselle one similar to this that I don’t hate, it doesn’t have very great leather, but has held up really well. https://www.horseloverz.com/english-horse-tack/english-horse-bridles/flash-bridles/exselle-elite-plain-fancy-bridle

problem solved, if it comes in brown (or if you don’t care) - https://www.vtosaddlery.com/product/RBCCC.htm

Tried one… it moved too much. Back to plan for squishy headstall.

Ovation has a “Recessed Crown System” line in which there’s a space to thread the nose band strap over the comfort crown. Reasonably priced too!
