Does this saddle flap fit me?

UPDATE: Better photo in the comments below!

I’m in the process of buying a Black Country saddle. I tried a Quantum (demo) yesterday and loved it. The fitter is coming Tuesday to check the fit for my horse. In the meantime, I’m not 100% sure it fits my leg. Check out the picture. Is this flap forward enough? My knee looks pretty close to the front of the flap. Trainer didn’t object, but I want to be very sure before dropping $$$!

It’s hard to tell from the angle of the photo but it looks questionable.

What happens if you put your stirrups up a hole on a different horse, or up two holes to gallop? Where does your leg go in relation to the blocks?

One leggy rider to another who’s finally getting out of 10 years of saddles without enough forwardness to the flap (from long/forward to “this saddle was built for a 6’5” man”): The good deal isn’t worth it if you’ll fight the tack for years.

The whole saddle looks small to me. Can you go up a half or whole size? You don’t have much room behind your butt. The normal guideline I hear is 4 fingers behind butt and you don’t seem to have that. I wonder if going up a half size or full size would give you a little more room for your knee. I think you are awfully close to the front of the flap.

The picture is a bad angle, its too too far away and it’s slightly grainy, so not a great photo to judge from.

The flat looks really straight in this photo and long. Not too long for your leg necessarily, but this photo makes it look like a dressage saddle flap. Typically, people with longer legs like yours are more comfortable in a more forward flap, particularly when they have to raise their stirrups for jumping.

Not sure on the seat size either, due to the issues mentioned above with the photo itself.

Firstly, how does it feel to you? Are you comfortable? That’s most important. Just looking at the photo, it appears the seat is too small. Myself, I’d like a little more room in the knee.

I don’t think it does but hard to tell where flap ends and saddle pad begins.

I have a BC Quantum and adore it but the flap on mine is much more forward than the one in the picture. To me it does look like you need a more forward flap.

More forward, and for me personally I’d want it a bit shorter. It really does look like a dressage saddle.

Got a better photo!

I would say the flap is not forward enough for you. You don’t have any room to go up with your stirrups, and your knee angle in this photo is greater than the 90 degrees that’s ideal for jumping.
