does your dog watch tv?

Apologies if there is already a thread.

My dogs usually watch tv if there is a dog barking or running around on tv. They watch other animals too, horses, cats, bears etc…

Right now my pup is enthralled by the Germans speaking in Miracle at St. Anna. He never does this, unless it’s an animal on screen…

Yours?

I don’t have a dog, but, one of my cats will watch. I haven’t figured out what it is that attracts her attention, but, she will stop what she is doing and start staring at the screen, sometimes for a couple of minutes. The other three think it’s just a noisy box that sits in a corner of the room. They could care less.

my toy fox terriers watch, with GREAT interest…my other dogs don’t

Baxter does. Sometimes he will just sit right down and watch. He seems to like action movies… Well, he is half Sheltie, makes perfect sense.

The other day as we were getting ready to leave our (new) house, I told hubby to turn on the TV for the dogs before we left. They’re still a little nervous in the new digs, so I wanted some noise on for them.

He asked, “What channel?”

Me, “Animal Planet or CNN.”

Him, “You’re serious, aren’t you?”

Me, “Yeah. Giais likes both.”

Him, “Wow.”

Seriously though, my dog does watch. Especially if there are animals or kids. <shrugs>

My dog likes watching things with other dogs. He’ll observe the happenings on TV and occasionally bark at the screen.

Mine doesn’t but my mom’s Westie will. He’ll run up to the tv and bark at it sometimes too.

I have a cat whom I have photographed watching: a dog show, a hockey game, and a basketball game on TV. I would put a footstool in front of the TV so she could be at eye level with it. Too funny!

My dog watches tv. Actually, the Today Show helped get my dog through the tail end of her separation anxiety. She was a little more stressed when main anchors weren’t there…

However, my television watching dog does NOT like bull riding. Hates it. HATES IT. I had the tv on one day while I was cooking. Whatever I was watching ended and bull riding came on. My dog was sound asleep of the sofa. 5 minutes later barking starts, hair standing up on end, standing on hind legs at the TV growling and barking, running away barking, rinse, repeat. The tv cut to commercial break (I had my hands in cookie dough and was not about to turn off tv at that point) and after a couple of minutes she calmed down.

Know I know we don’t approve of bull riding on tv…

Our JRTx really struggles with bull riding as well. She gets overly excited, though. Starts barking, panting, chasing her tail, and attempts to ‘herd’ the TV.

This is the nightly scene at our house, after the baby goes to bed. She snuggles with Mom. She’ll lay on the couch with me and watch TV as well.

Our new Lab Mix pup loves anything with animals. She barks at the dogs if they are barking. Sometimes watches football with DH. I would not leave her alone with the TV on. I think she would jump on the screen.

My sister’s corgi is nuts over the tv. When I visit we can’t watch anything with animals or the dog goes nuts barking at the tv. No animals of any kind, if she spots it she will run at the tv and jump up and down and bark. Elephants, yup, other dogs, yup, penguins (really hates those for some reason). She is a great little dog but they have to police their tv programs due to the dog. Time for some training but she thinks it is cute. Personally I think it is obnoxious.
