Dog afraid of water with cone on

Two days ago my beagle Yadi ripped his nail at the nail bed.
The vet said it needs to grow for two weeks before she can clip it surgically and so he’s been in a cone (and on pain meds/antibiotics)

He’s eating just fine with the food bowl elevated.
But he seems almost afraid of his water, he will take a few sips and back off, repeat

I had a different dog in a cone before and never had this issue, besides taking the cone off (we may have to to let him drink more) any suggestions?

Add water to food?
My Beagle eats canned food with added water.

Can Yadi wear a different type of cone?

Wet food is a good idea

Unfortunately no, the inflatable kind he can reach his paw

Hold a shallow water bowl up to him • he’ll learn • help him til he masters it.

Hold the bottom of the cone with your other hand to steady it/ him while he’s drinking.

You might try a different neck restraint to prevent reaching his foot. They sell solid neck rolls and inflatable rolls that go around dogs necks. Prevents neck bending to reach wounds. Not as blinding or catching on things (doorways, tables) as cones are. Sold at pet stores, online, not terribly expensive.
