Dog bed recommendations? Cheap or easily washable preferred.

We have three dogs and we all live in our barn.

I am looking for some sort of dog bed that is either cheap enough to replace when it gets disgusting OR is easily washable.

We need two for the kennels and three for the aisleway/tackroom, so two different types. Two of the three blow coat twice a year and it’s gross, and one is always shedding and it’s also gross. Also add in mud and whatever else they get into.

I love them but I do not love their hair. We’d been using cheap or old comforters but those are bulky and retain hair and funk like crazy.

Denim is fairly good at not holding onto hair.

Now that it’s back to school season, you might be able to find some body pillows for cheap at Bed Bath & Beyond or similar that wouldn’t break the budget if they needed to be replaced. You might even be able to get a few different slip covers to swap in and out for washing without having to wash the whole pillow.

Alternatively, depending on the size of the dogs, you might be able to get away with buying some egg shell or memory foam (like the ones you put on human beds) to cut down and stuff into said body pillow slip covers. That would be even cheaper.

Costco dog beds are great, if you are near one. Cheap and durable.

We use beds from Costco at our clinic.

Another alternative”"I bought a super cheap bed with a tough, washable cover. ($9.99 at Tractor Supply) When the fill was squashed down beyond repair, I cut one side open, removed the fill, washed the cover, and re-stuffed the innards with cedar chips. I sewed it closed, and then lather-rinse-repeat as needed.

Thanks all! We have one Chesapeake Bay Retriever and 2 ACDs… No Costco near us but a TSC. Love the cedar chip idea…

Coolaroo beds are great for outside: http://www.amazon.com/Coolaroo-Large-Steel-Framed-Brunswick-Green/dp/B000P7JKD6

I put lightweight blankets on top that are easy to throw in the wash…bottom part can be hosed off need be.

Whatever dog bed you decide on, make sure it is not made of feathers. Bought a beautiful bed for the woofies from TJMaxx a few years ago. Didn’t know it was a feather bed until I came home one day and the horrible beasts had feathers everywhere. Only had the bed a couple of weeks but we were cleaning up feathers nearly 6 months later in the hidden areas only spiders live

I use old saddle pads- the thick square poly pads make excellent dog beds, and are obviously designed to be easily washed.

I get the $10 beds at TSC and when they get too nasty, just pitch them. I’ve washed them before and it can be done but they don’t hold up very well.

I’ve found some decent cheap covers on eBay (I especially like the ones from Orvis, but they are $$$ from them and I find them on eBay for $). Then I stuff with cheap mattress pad material like the egg crate stuff from the discount store. For outside, the cedar chip filling would be a good one. You could just dump 'em in the compost pile when time to replenish. I’ve also made covers by stitching a couple of bath towels together, but those might not be so good with shedders as the hair really adheres to that sort of material. Much prefer something more smooth like canvas or denim for that.

Is there any reason I couldn’t use cedar in a cover for in their inside beds or for the kennel pads? Or is pine better?
