Welp. My 1.5 year old lab has Frito hands and feet.
Online research suggests yeast in between her fingers and toes. They recommend a mix of peroxide and vinegar. Dunk foot in, dry, voila, you are good.
Anyone have experience dealing with this? She is really stinky.
Your dog has hands? And fingers?
I’d be more concerned about that than the frito smell, but that’s just me.

She does! Lol.
All my dogs’ pads have smelled like Fritos… it’s normal, as far as I know…
Years ago my young Boxers’ feet smelled the same way. Very corn chip-y. We changed from a corn based food to something different and <voila!> the smell went away…gosh I do miss those Frito feet though!
What are you feeding right now?
My BC had corn chip feet as well. A Google search indicates this is normal.
All dogs’ feet smell like that. And mine don’t have hands.
Unless you see them licking, chewing, or discoloration (staining) on their feet, I would not give it another thought. I definitely would not wash their feet with vinegar every day unless you had reason to believe that this is more than normal “frito feet” smell.
Mine have popcorn feet.
So since popcorn or chips both go well with beer, then drink more beer.
I feed a grain free diet (absolutely no corn) and my dogs’ feet have ALWAYS smelled like this - as long as it’s not horrid or NOT frito’y I wouldn’t worry. I just enjoy it
Many many dogs have Fritos feet:) As long as they aren’t disclosed, itchy, swollen, I wouldn’t be concerned.
It’s pretty normal. Most dogs have Frito feet, since yeast a normal part of a dogs flora. If there is overgrowth and there an infection, there will be itching, licking, oozing, crust. Only if there is something to culture (over growth) then could you take a cytology…cell sample. Not sure if a vet could attempt a culture of normal smelling dog feet that don’t have overgrowth and symptoms.
My dog’s feet smell faintly of Fritos. If they were unusually smelly, he licked them or had other symptoms of a problem with his immune system, I’d probably feed some probiotics, maybe yogurt, and apply something OTC. Even anti fungal foot powder or women’s yeast infection med might work. If it was a raging yeast infection, then to the vet.
My dogs have Frito smelling paws, too. My husband always corrects me and says, “No, they have pee-pee paws.” He might be onto something…
My dog has what I refer to as lil’ stinky people feet:)
He has webbed paws and not sure if this increases the frito-smells. He has been on a raw diet for years…
Funny, I’ve always called my dogs Frito feet without knowing how common it was
… and this is the problem with Dr. Google.
Take your dog to the vet for an examination and they can take cytology to examine for yeast overgrowth under the microscope if your dog is experiencing problems. And the treatment would not be vinegar/peroxide.
Both my aussie dog have had Frito feet. They also have hairy feet. I have a men’s battery beard trimmer, and use that to trim the hairy paws.
I make this dog shampoo, bath as needed, or put a little in a bowl of water and swish feet then dry.
1 qt (4 parts) water
1 cup (1 part) plain vinegar
1 cup (1 part) Dawn dish soap (any fragrance)
Make as much as you need for the size of your dog, store in an empty Dawn bottle
I add 10 drops 100% citronella or rosemary essential oil to the full recipe because I like those scents.

Some labs are prone to skin conditions. Can you see anything growing between her toes and fingers or any irritation? Is she licking her feet or just stinky?
Fascinating that it is so common. I always associated it with yeast or a food intolerance. I just grabbed little mans foot and gave it a good sniff just to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. He definitely has zero smell on his feet. His feet and mouth smell really nice actually. He is in a rolled coat so the wire coat occasionally gets a bit doggy when he is in need of a bath but his feet and beard never smell.
People at work think I’m crazy when I ask them if their dogs’ feet smell like Fritos… they say they never smell their dogs’ feet. How can you not, when the dog is lying right there beside you on the sofa???
