Anyone else’s dog eat their horse’s alfalfa hay? My dog LOVES it. She loves alfalfa pellets even more! She also eats grass, weeds, whatever.
I have two house rabbits that I’ve had to make a special feeder for, as both my dogs will scarf their pelleted feed at any given opportunity! Their food pellets are timothy based, but I was recently given a sample that were alfalfa based, and the dogs liked those equally well.
I have wierd dogs though, they’ll steal vegetables like carrots, celery, cabbage, etc and eat those just as readily as they will meat scraps. The puppy actually watched me pull carrots in the garden once, and when I came back 20 minutes later, he’d neatly pulled up and eaten half of the carrots I had out there!
My dog eats some grass, will nibble on hay, eat alfalfa pellets, and horse treats. She also sticks her head under the fence and catches any sweet feed that hits the ground.
nine love Alfalfa too I have huge O/A square bales and they really try to eat them
Whew, I don’t feel all alone, now! Thanks, guys!
My poor dog loves to eat grass when she is having a tummy issue. With our weather she cannot get any right now. I also used to give them Greenies but got worried about them choking. I had a theory that they were going after the chorophyll. Anybody know?
Mine like it also but my biggest issue is my dog with allergies to grains that insists on jumping into the feed bin every chance she gets and scarfing up as much of the horses grain as she can before I can chase her away or grab it away from her. I spend a fortune on premium grain free food for her and she screws it all up in a couple of minutes of horse feed hoarding.

I find it truly amazing what animals will eat and not eat. I guess it’s like humans - we want to eat what tastes best, not what is best for us!
My dog’s a fiend for the horse feed too?! She seems to like it better than kibble. She helps do “chores” by snarfing up anything the horses drop from their mouths and feed buckets.
