Dog Ramp for Stairs

I need a better dog ramp for the stairs from my garage to my house for my elderly greyhound. We have been using a commercial one, but it’s only long enough to go up three stairs and we have four, so she has to tackle the last one. Plus the traction is going on it. We’d like to give her an upgrade with one that we build ourselves.

Does anyone have any plans? I’ve googled and found some good pictures, but no plans. All the plans I’ve seen are for ramps to get on beds and the like. We need to cover four stairs.

TIA!

We had a handyman build one for our 17 year old Lab, running from the back porch down to the concrete patio and backyard.

He didn’t use plans, per se, and built it on top of the existing wooden stairs (back porch was a small wood deck with wide stairs wrapped around on two sides, going down to the patio and yard), to one side (taking up part of the stair width, left plenty for human foot traffic).

He put up a low railing on each side, and we installed outdoor carpet (the grassy looking kind) on the ramp. Since this narrow ramp wasn’t for wheelchair use, it didn’t have to meet ADA code; being installed over the stairs meant it was steeper than a people ramp could be, but worked fine for our aged dog.

Really, this is something we probably could have put together ourselves, and it was easy to remove once our beloved old girl had passed on.
